O’Rourke: ‘When The Second Amendment Was Ratified, It Took 3 Minutes To Reload A Musket’ | MSNBC

"There are understandable, common sense limits to the Second Amendment," says Beto O'Rourke at the 2020 Gun Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada. O'Rourke argues that today's assault rifles are meant for the battlefield and can kill a lot of people in three minutes. Aired on 10/2/19.

The NRA is waging an all-out effort to stop stronger gun laws.

    • @D L republicans Cry, when Soros buys off politicians, but Cheers it on when the NRA and Koch brothers does the same. You guys are just sad puppets.

    • @AJ anderson I’m not a republicant. I never claimed to be a republicant. Your mistake. Perhaps you shouldn’t make asinine assumptions.

    • @AJ anderson the only reason you assumed that is because you’re just a sad puppet.
Trained to believe that there’s only 2 parties and everyone is one or the other.
That’s not the case. There are more than just 2 political parties. If you fill out a voter registration card you can see that.

    • @D L Perhaps you shouldn’t make asinine assumptions either.

  2. I support banning most guns but in all fairness but any well-trained shooter could have fired 3 rounds a min and any less they’d have been docked and whipped most likely.

    • I honestly thought the 3 aimed shots thing was common knowledge. But I am not surprised to see other politicians going the trump route and just blaitnly lying on camera.

    • @Jake Mcewen Don’t get me wrong I’m not a Trump fan but it’s a matter of fact that most soldiers were expected to shoot 3 rounds a min in all weather. I do still agree with his point tho, when the constitution was written a single man couldn’t have caused so much devastation.

    • British soldiers were known to fire 3 rounds a minute in any weather, mainly thanks to the way that they always trained with live ammunition.
4 rounds was the very top end a highly trained soldier could manage.
Lesser trained armies would fire far less than that, and untrained civilians could be counted on to fire less again.

    • @Dahn Well I’m British so It would have been 3 rounds and no less for me!

It’s a fair point. Whether you like Beto or not, just consider the point that he made. You don’t all need an ak47.

  4. Starting it off saying it took 3 minutes to load a musket is just not factual. Come on. Have some common sense. I think he’s confusing it with they could get about 3 rounds fired in a minute if they were well trained. This is from what I just researched. I’m left of center and own guns. I have an appreciation for both sides arguments, but this blatant ignorance of facts will get us nowhere. You can’t get in front of an audience and spout misinformation and expect any change. Your grounds for what you’re proposing is out of ignorance.

    • I’m much in the same boat as you.
He had my vote… Until he started talking about coming for our guns and attacking the second amendment.
Trump needs to be replaced, but not by someone trying to weaken us as a society.
Back to trying to find the best candidate to vote for against trump. Sigh

    • D L
It’s a strange position and time to be in as a gun owner that isn’t on the right. I agree that some things need to be done as far as mass shootings, but saying that you’re coming for ARs and AKs certainly isn’t the answer. Let’s start practically.

    • @Andre exactly

I had to join the Army and go to training for weeks to EARN the RIGHT to carry an AR-15 (M-4/ M-16). These rifles are for WAR & Killing, not for fun. If you want one, join the Service!

Assault weapons have no place in a civil society.

    Ban Assault Weapons now!

    #endgunviolence #betospeakstruth

    • What was your MOS?

    • Why would you ever call your service rifle an AR-15, if you’re really in the service you’d know the difference. Unless you just sat in the back and snorted hand sanitizer while have wet dreams about taking away people’s guns and right to defend themselves against a tyrannical government during your weapons familiarization class with the SDS.

  6. Hey so this is just 100% wrong. One of George Washington’s soldiers was expected to be able to get off 3 aimed shots in a minute. This is why I am registered as an independent now.

  7. Gun manufacturers are the Warlords of the private $ector.

I have said something like this. When the Americans wrote about bearing arms in their constitution, you couldn’t fire rounds and rounds in seconds. The language is outdated and has not kept up with technology. Sociological cultural lag showing up in a now antiquated document.

Bernie just got out of heart surgery.

He’s been out for hours now. He had 2 stints put in. There will be a recovery period but this type of surgery is almost commonplace at this point.

A well regulated militia requires regulation.

  11. Whistleblower | October 2, 2019 at 7:44 PM | Reply

It takes only 1 minute to 20 seconds to reload a musket. But I still like his point.

    • LinusMLGTips I’m not a conservative and good luck in states like TX and Missouri, Alabama etc. Because like my family member is a cop told me those states will not enforce your silly new gun laws and many police depts. especially in rural areas won’t comply with the gun confiscation either. The PUCKLE GUN (you couldn’t even get the name right) was designed for shooting in mass stupid. That was the point. You actually think the founders never imagined guns could be more efficient in the years to come WHILE they were trying to make guns more efficient? Lol low IQ…..

    • Whistleblower You just contradicted your self and demonstrate another black person who does not use thier brain. We can no longer afford your type among us.

    • @LinusMLGTips there was a semi auto
.46cal rifle in military service during the founding fathers time.
Lewis and Clark took one with them in fact.

But go ahead and try again.

coptic777 — “I’m not a conservative…” proceeds to use right wing talking points. 🙄 Any black man that thinks “liberals” are the best enemy and the good ol’ GOP is “our” side is either an incel who lives in his grandmama’s house or white kid cat fishing from his mom’s house. Phuck off

  12. I thought this was the same musket that the British could fire three to a minute – in rare cases five.

  13. The first amendment comes before the 2nd Amendment.

The 1st Amendment has limits; so should the 2nd Amendment.

    • Really? Which part of the first amendment would you limit? And please don’t answer with yelling fire in a crowded theater, that would be disappointing. Would you limit freedom of religion (or no religion, I’m an atheist btw)? Airing your grievances against your government? Would you limit the press?

    • Name the limits!

  14. How long does it take to run people over with your car buttho?

    Lmfao….the left is finished.
God bless America. Thank you god.

  16. You can’t hunt dear with an AR-15 because you’d get swiss cheese not meat. You wouldn’t shoot a burglar with an AR-15 because you’d cause $15,000 in property damage to your own home in the process.

    • @Jtmichael23 As former military, I know more than you Son. Anyway; you can crawl out from under your bed. Luxembourg is NOT planning to invade your rural town. So RELAX.

    • @9TheMajor As former military i know more than you? That has nothing to do with anything. You sound like a pretty unhappy person. As far as your knowledge clearly you weren’t trained correctly because your statement on a semi automatic Ar-15 is erroneous.

    • @9TheMajor what was your MOS?

    • @TheAlhouk57 Meteorology

    • @Jtmichael23 I’m happily retired and enjoy my hobbies and family. As a civilian I no longer desire having a firearm. You can do as YOU wish. End of story Sir.

  17. I guarantee not one of our “liberal” candidates is going to mention how hip hop radicalizes our youth

For our security the State of California has a well regulated militia. Our well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, is made up of our California employees regulated to the task of our security such as our police officers and animal control.
It will never be the best of well regulated militia possible but at least it is regulated to be something better for our security than every yahoo gets a badge and a gun.

    • The state of California is being run into the ground by the coastal elite while all of the farmers in the central valley leave.

Furthermore California isn’t safe and suffers from horrible gang violence.

    • Scott Scotsman | October 3, 2019 at 3:30 AM | Reply

      @TheAlhouk57 so?

    • Took two days to get the national guard into the R. King riots. Law abiding citizens were on their own for two days!

  19. British soldiers were known to fire 3 rounds a minute in any weather, mainly thanks to the way that they always trained with live ammunition.
4 rounds was the very top end a highly trained soldier could manage.
Lesser trained armies would fire far less than that, and untrained civilians could be counted on to fire less again.

The Constitution NEEDS updating in places, the same as any other legal document, as times change.
It’s credit to the founders that so much has endured without requiring changes, but changes have been made before and will again, some pretty major.
The whole 2nd Amendment was one of those changes, hence it being an Amendment in the first place.
Now is a really good time to revisit that specific part, and put some sensible and rational limits that end the massacre of innocent civilians by terrorists and madmen.

  20. All dem gun haters need do is simple. Name a gun control law that only affects criminals. It is clear dem gun haters cannot name one! There is one reason and only one reason to own a so called assault weapon. It is my right!
