Zaporizhzhia plant: Ukraine prepares for catastrophe | USA TODAY

Fighting in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia caused power plant workers to prepare for the possibility of a nuclear disaster.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.N. head Antonio Guterres agreed Thursday on the terms of a trip by the International Atomic Energy Agency to the embattled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the presidential website said.

However, the plant has been under Russian control since early in the war, and it's not certain the Kremlin will accede to the visit. A Russian Foreign Ministry official rejected the notion of withdrawing troops, saying it would leave the plant “vulnerable.”

The warring sides have been accusing each other of risking a nuclear calamity by shelling in the vicinity of the plant and, on Thursday, of plotting to attack the site and then blame the other party. Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov said his country may cease operations of the plant “if the situation with Ukrainian shelling continues to develop negatively.''

    1. What is safe by your standards then? Since you seem to be measuring it by it’s capacity to withstand artillery fire.

    2. It’s safe when regulated and monitored.. fighting around it is kinda way out of that water and kinda really stupid. Like no one over there has any common sense to stay away from such a destructive plant? Did they not learn this from chernobyls incident that playing around with nuclear material is a disaster ?

  3. Does radiation twice the size of Hiroshima mean anything probably not to Russia they’re already done

You can forget all, Evacuate and change citizenship, relocate. Your lives can be of other uses.Nobody can stop anybody’s evacuation, then there is a way and all innocent people must leave for other warless countries.UN or someone else.
