They’d rather live on the streets than an SRO, because welfare hotels cost far more than the $375 they get for housing from welfare. An SRO costs at least $600, but welfare is only $750. If they live on the street, they don’t get the $375 for housing, but they get to keep the $375 for support. Living in an SRO, they’d only have $150 for support… at the most.
