I do believe the ‘WILLINGNESS’ to disclose your tax returns should be a requirement for the office but I don’t think the contents should be made PUBLIC unless the candidate approves but if they disapprove than they can’t ‘Bad Mouth’ (Gag Order) an Election Committee for DISQUALIFYING them from running for the highest office in the land (and it can be a State run committee as long as there is also a FEDERAL level one).
Whoever processes Congressmen’s tax records should process Presidential candidates returns. And it should be about deception, FRAUD, criminal activity or conflicts of interest NOT whether they are ‘Rich’ or not.

There needs to be a restrictions on presidential orders. Using funds from one agency to fund projects like the Wall, (the president doesn’t hold the purse strings). Using the military to police the borders. etc. You can’t run the Government on policies that change every (4) years
The latest on his B$ with the Wall? A Federal Appeals Court Judge ruled that neither Executive Privilege nor National Emergency grants a President total authority. He does NOT have the authority to steal money from the Military Budget to “Build the Wall,” he was ordered to cease and desist.
The US Constitution grants CONGRESS, not the President the authority to deal with money.
The powers and roles that any modern President president wields would scare the founding fathers. The way it’s supposed to go is that Congress leads, and the President follows.

In case you are not aware, Nancy Pelosi has written a bill just for this reason, which will curtail any future president from being able to use public office for personal gains and to disclose tax returns prior to an election.

Revision of the gerrymandered districts.
Oversight of Presidential Pardons.
Oversight of Presidential powers regarding Emergency Measures and War Powers Act.
EXECUTION OF TREASONOUS PRESIDENTS AND/OR CABINET MINISTERS, ESP AG’S.

@Hyperpandas A system might be established by which a would-be president, if winning by popular ballot, has to win both most states and most people — at the risk of leaving a contest undecided and throwing it to the House and Senate (the new ones, not the old). Don’t forget why the EC — breadth of representation.

The EC needs rule changes to balance a bit more and the Senate representation needs tweaking to reflect more the urban areas.

This is new to me. I’ve just referred to the current admin. as the Fourth Reich. That said, Oligarchy and Fascism are really kissing cousins both derived from Feudalism and the idea that the poor exist to fund the wealthy.
If reforms aren’t put in place then say goodbye to American Democracy. Now that Donald Trump and the GOP have shown just how fragile it is.
Democracy is always fragile. The problems Americans have is that they thought their democracy was safe under a system of checks, balances, and legislation. It only worked with Nixon because he and his supporting Party in the Senate has respect for the Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law.
So what happens when you have a President and a majority Party in the Senate that supports a President that is totally lawless. As we can see the system breaks down. Putting in new legislation simply will not work if the person elected will not follow the rules. Nobody can make the President do anything.
The strength of a democracy lies in it’s electorate. When they loose faith in democracy it dies, simple. It is clear a good 30% of Americans have reached that point, or simply do not understand what a democracy is any more.
That is the problem. Who is guilty for this state of affairs? The finger can certainly be pointed to a complacent political culture for sure. Conservative Evangelicals, by mixing politics with religion, have a responsibility. Then there is a Conservative hegemony that has sought to undermine the institutions of democracy since Reagan.
There is still a majority of Americans that do understand democracy and are prepared to fight for it. If they prevail, then it is up to the successful administration to restore faith in the system, get it working for the people and to make sure America is never again hijacked by a bunch of crazies.
