Will 2020 Mark The End Of Seeing The Latino Vote As A Monolith? | Morning Joe | MSNBC
Johnson is the reason Dems always lose,always pandering to centrist right wing
Please let’s not get something wrong. The Democrats do not need to start hand-wringing, blaming, feeling guilty and ashamed or profusely apologizing. If Biden maintains both his Electoral College as well as popular vote leads he wins the 2020 Presidential election. But remember, this is not just any election. This wasn’t a battle; this was war. There have been many, many casualties, albeit nontraditional ones, from murders (Kenosha/Portland/Tacoma) to how many needless COVID-19 deaths, disabilities and infections? Former VP Biden will have defeated arguably the greatest single risk our democracy may have ever faced, certainly in generations.
If Biden wins he will have legally defeated an incumbent President who was using all legal and extra legal powers at his disposal in his attempt to defeat his challenger no matter the costs – yet fails. Biden and this country, no matter how narrowly, will have conquered a man and his far too many coconspirator sycophants who have used every trick in libraries of books. To name just a few, this administration has tried to divert, depress, divide and conquer using: overt racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, Anti-Semitism, anti science, facts and reality, gaslighting, psychological manipulation, pervasive social media propaganda and misinformation campaigns with tens of thousands of lies, virtually unlimited campaign financing, law enforcement and white supremacist militias, USPS delivery slowdowns (USPS failed to deliver 27 percent of mail-in ballots in South Florida), hundreds of court challenges to election processes and voting rights as well as the overt solicitation of and assistance from foreign governments all while undermining the very legitimacy of democratic institutions: voters, voting and elections, finance campaign laws, peaceful transfers of power even political and social norms… What about the President’s blatant disregard for our Constitution? Democrats up and down the ballot have done extraordinarily well in the face of such a ruthless, endless onslaught.
If on January 20, 2021 Biden becomes the President, he and every single voter who was lucky enough to cast a ballot and have that vote counted (for any candidate) will have won by a larger margin than we can possibly fathom. Historians, teacher and students hopefully will ponder these events for a very long time. We will have saved our democracy; saved vital, treasured although worn intuitions. Still, we must remain vigilant; we have our work cut out for us. Perhaps someday soon we will come together and celebrate, and even grieve, surviving. Regardless – It’s victory.

Having said all of that , think about how poorly the democrats strategy and messaging must be to barely win despite a president who has caused the deaths of over 240,000 people, with 70 million people out of work due to his mishandling of the virus. Plus he has been impeached, and faces numerous charges by the authorities ; and you barely win! Plus you lose seats in the house and only picked up a couple in the Senate. I mean if you can’t DESTROY an incumbent president with such a horrible record then something is terribly wrong with your messaging. So they need to clean that up!

The biggest lesson of 2020: NEVER TRUST POLLS. Also, stop pitting all African Americans and Latinos into one bucket each. The demographics are so diverse and complex, most politicians have no idea. Medical benefits packages are extremely expensive and most small businesses struggle to retain and attract good employees as a result. Green New Deal isn’t socialism, it’s an economic growth engine that will push us into the next century. Raising taxes will not tank the economy because they were paying these same taxes before and the economy was booming. The myths need to be dispelled!! The GOP just plays offense by putting Dems on defense when they say Democrats wanna raise your taxes and people just tune out after that.

It’s racial. I’m an Afro Cuban Puerto Rican. There is a racist strain within our community that is colonial and toxic.. Cubans in Florida are mainly WT. They left the island because they hated the black and brown people and they feared intergration more than Communism. There is a lot of racism within the Latino community that stems from a colonial caste system. A lot of this support for Trump is about wt Latinos and those brown Latinos who aspire to wt-ness. They are siding against other black and brown Latinos who they need to feel they are superior to. Venezuelans in Miami who left their countries are the wealthy, whiter Venezuelans who resent the black and brown people in their countries. I am a Latina who had lived in multiple Latin countries and this too is about race.
