A climate crisis-induced ice melt is making Greenland the epicenter of the dire impacts of climate change, while it's also creating opportunities to find new sources of precious metals needed to power green energy, with many companies are already scrambling to mine these essential resources. CNN's René Marsh reports. #CNN #News
Folks – billionaires, this all sounds well and good, and likely necessary – but please, please, PLEASE don’t screw Greenland over. Don’t mess it up for the rest of humanity, and the rest of our futures.
@Phil Groves Good to hear that you have a reasonable mind, because when I sat down and did the math, it would cost me $500k+ in USD to but batteries to heat my home (5 days w/ no wind/solar) in January when the temps are the coldest. This estimate EXCLUDED the heating element to warm the house LOL!
I find it interesting that the US Climate Change, or, “Inflation Reduction” bill never mentions nuclear.
What are their priorities?
Wouldn’t you place the base load first?
They will, money rules,
They should be put on trial and get life in a cell beside Maxwell, imagine being stuck in a cell beside her for 20 years,
@Greg No. Just no. I do not want to imagine being anywhere close to Maxwell – she creeps me out. A lot.
@Phil Groves 🤣🤣
What’s wrong with these billionaires who are never happy to leave well enough alone?
If we leave well enough alone then we all die of lung diseases and in extreme weather events so kinda stuck changing something. This damages one area but stops more damage in other areas so it is a win even if it is an ugly win.
I have seen grown men, engineers and roughneck tough guys crying about the environmental disasters they have seen in some of the world’s oilfields, how is a mine in Greenland any worse than a leaky spewing oilfield with hundreds of wells on it?
Your solution is to reduce your consumption at home and at work. The only way we can slow down or stop mining and stop polluting, is to reduce our consumption.
If you cannot reduce consumption then you just gotta pick which areas are destroyed and which type of poison air you want to breath. Using natural resources means destroying nature, which ones do you pick to be destroyed instead of setting up a couple mines in Greenland?
🎶Money, money, money, mo-ney, MO-NEY! 🎵 Remember when DJT wanted to buy this island or something to that effect? He had insider info.
To change to green energy guy
And then one more beautiful clean and pristine place to end up with the aftermath of what mining does
@Derkkkk
– Livable cities inside a mountain
– Mag- trains across the pond
– Houses covered in giant hard bubble so tornadoes don’t smush.
Those are just dreams that’ll never work….
@I’m Ryte Beehyne U… The cities I’m referring to already exist and for your other points you just have a train station by the airport and buses to the train station. This isn’t rocket science, nor impossible. It’s just surprising we keep treating the symptoms to a problem some nations already fixed.
@Derkkkk except all those countries of cities from around the world are connected. We’re 🇺🇸 the only one that aren’t. But that’s how unique we are and that’s how people from around the world either visit or live here. Sure we’re way behind because of greed. But it never stop us to keep on dreaming to create. I don’t know if I make sense but…oh well.
@I’m Ryte Beehyne U… No, they’re not “connected” unlike us. Same situation for many places in EU but EU is just more foreward thinking. I can agree greed is the cause though!
@I’m Ryte Beehyne U… America ia connected to Mexico and Canada
So they’re after materials for EV batteries. But they still can’t generate the power needed to run things now. They’re not going to have enough power to run your house let alone the house and car together! It’s all smoke and mirrors!
calling mineral prospecting a treasure hunt? come on! xD
1 Semechki for Putin Fuk what you saying it here 😠 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1AhhPPa2mA
Felicidades, es un buen ejemplo. 😠
5:25 Se deja ver que hay muy buenos resultados 😠😠
Saludos desde la Cd.. de world 🌹😉💖
los mortales abian apreciado tan hermosa mujer
It’s the same as it’s always been. They’re doing it for money first. And using the possibility of “green” energy is distant second. If they were so caring about the environment then why don’t they donate their billions towards cleaning up pollution now. Not crossing their fingers to do it in the future.
Ok you win

@Bean Season Just imagine if the asteroid was made out of solid gold …
it would be a big hit.
Great post. These one percenters are not going to give anything up. !!!!! Not nothing but they will tell us to ????…

@Ernst Pattynama I don’t know what you mean 👀

Yeah, let’s leave it up to billionaires, many of whom play a large part in the crisis in the first place. How about they pay their fair share of taxes and we’ll go from there.
This is one of the reasons billionaires uses to justify not paying their fair share of taxes. ” We invest heavily into risky adventures that can possibly create thousands of job and help wing us off being reliant on other countries, mostly China and the Middle east.😉
@Sandra Stevens republicans!!!

Is 50% taxes a fair share to you?
Let’s mine in Greenland and add to greenhouse gas emissions and then more ice will melt and give us access to more mining! I’m sure we can repeat this over and over with no negative consequences.
Yes, they want to do it for the good of mankind. Very generous of them…
😝😆 … I am shure they will not make a dime right …
I’m sure it’s so green also 🤣
Why can’t these billionaires do something useful with their money. Digging up the pristine environment in Greenland is a disaster.
They’re mining minerals needed for renewable energy. Minerals needed for batteries lol this is good

Ah! Ah! She did NOT say ‘energy storage’, she said “100’s of millions of electric vehicles” -> 0:31 THAT’S RIGHT Boys and Girls! Elon Musk is NOT INTERESTED in owning and maintaining your battery, rented to you, swapped out like the battery on an electric drill… NO SIR! WHERE is this “profit” thingy in that?
I used to commute to one job I had using Mass Transit. I commuted to another job where traffic volume, not accidents would slow traffic to a nightmarish crawl. 4 lanes fiilled to the gills of one person, one car. Every time another lane is built by the way, it just adds to the volume (studies prove that). How many people in those cars do YOU think, would choose good mass transit running down the interstate median? Get to your stop, use a timeshare car, like “Zipcar” (with others perhaps going to the same office/industrial park) but again, where is the “profit” in that?
@BravoCharlie For your education, Ni, Co, are critical metals in established battery technology. The clip repeatedly stated that the hunt was on for materials that “powered” green technology.
But you are free to misinterpret the obvious as you see fit, as that seems to be almost standard practise in some parts of the world, particularly in the USA.
Regardless, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for timeshare travel.
So the huge machines that are used for mining can add to the greenhouse gases besides tearing up the land to get the minerals they want!
Save the Earth! GO Green! -Starts destroying Greenland.

Just like blasting a these rockets through the atmosphere ??????
melt the ice to save the ice sounds legit
Billionaires do not have our best interest in mind, just look at what has become of this planet because of greed…just remember that
Yet because of them you have as much as you do..
Like a small fish cleaning and feeding off a Large Shark yet still unhappy..
Maybe you’re the greedy one in reality..
People are gonna regret all of what they are doing.
the billionaires must finally be realizing that even they will not survive this climate calamity.
Even with the choicest spots to wait out the warming, without their support structure, they will surely perish as well.
So fun to watch the commentators last remark “allowing the US to diversify its mineral sousing” Since when does the US have the mining rights for minerals in Greenland without asking Denmark? To my knowledge, is Greenland still a part of the Danish kingdom. I hope the necessary permits are in place….
@Brandon Are you trying to offend me with you remark? If so come here and say it to my face mr. keyboard worrier.
@Tommy Hawk Tommy you not the sharpest person . You say I must go there and say it in your face . Tom where is there . I am certain I can recognize your ugly mugg but I need to know where to go . Dammit Tom concentrate.
@Tommy Hawk Just joking Hawk but your interpretation of the article is wrong .
@Brandon Maybe so, it is your language, i am only trying to use it.
@Tommy Hawk Good day to you Mr Hawk . Hope you have a spended day . Ps Remember Donald The Great is fighting for you . 💪. Long live Donald The Great .
I like the idea of mining for necessary materials to get to clean energy quicker, but the problem with that is that:
1. Mining those resources will definitely result in more emissions of greenhouse gases from the machines digging the materials up as well as potentially the rocks themselves seeing as how there could be greenhouse gases like Methane that are trapped in air pockets in the rocks themselves.
2. This is being overseen by billionaires, who contribute a lot to greenhouse gas emissions in the first place. Why can’t there be a universal or national social project to accomplish this task instead of letting greedy businessmen do what interests them?
You said the quiet part loud.
So pristine lands never touched by humans tore up and violated for GREEN energy …. makes sense
They’re not looking for mineral’s what have you: They’re looking for the past: …Be careful, …you never know what you may find.
Yeah but in order to mine those materials you will need equipment that counteracts the whole entire process. So at what cost? 🤔
