Why LBJ's Speech On Voting Rights Act Still Resonates Today | Morning Joe | MSNBC
Sad that things have come to this in American society! Why do Americans choose to hate so much? Because it IS a choice!
@Claude Williams FEAR, of loss of identity and culture. They have been manipulated into fear and anger by ill intentioned and ill informed
@Elaine Daprano exactly right elaine 100% best truths like my grandmother said AIN’T MUCH FUN WHEN THE RABBIT HAS THE GUN
Honesty will win the day.
@randal gibbons you go through a TON OF LIES FROM PRIVATE BONE SPURS JUST TO GET 1 OUNCE OF TRUTH
@Jalen Tiara LMMFAO,LBJ himself was investigated for voter fraud in 1948,the box 13 scandal,he was also a notorious racist.
If you govern so that you are afraid of voters, you don’t deserve to be in office.
Exactly! The GOP is scared of the black Vote!
It’s not surprising the republicans are afraid of voters, they are afraid of everything.
If the GOP weren’t such totalitarian extremists, they wouldn’t go to absurd lengths to rig elections by suppressing the votes of POC.
You never see Democrats trying to suppress the votes of religious conservatives.
@William H. Baird But remember, it’s not just Black voters, but all voters. Yes, I agree the thrust in the major states with large blocks of African-Americans and Latinos is their disenfranchisement. However, also think about these same voter suppression efforts in states with minimal people of color demographics – like Iowa. They are gleefully doing it too. The connecting strand is in support of the big lie that the last election was rigged and corrupt. That is what is making their efforts truly evil – the fact it’s based on a foundational lie and it’s being used for a power grab.
@marsh creek I agree with you!
If all the American people who can vote, DID vote,
the Republicans would never win an election again.
@Elizabeth Ayres … I’m from TN so a thousand pardons but I disagree… some are out-of-this-universe stupid…
@W Bush yeah. One of the many American treasures They are a colony of brilliant scientists and scholars located in Kentucky, Arizona.
@Ric Ladouceur just call him, troll
@W Bush You really should join our country if you find it so interesting. We let people leave, and return, and protest the government without threat of poisoning or Siberian prison. Sucks there. Nice here. Your best shot would be to join us, because you will NEVER defeat the free human mind, no matter how many people you think you control. Sad really. I have some Slavic DNA somewhere. The Slav is from the word slave….the irony here is unreal. We are far too diverse for you to ever really get it unless you experience it! C’mon. Defect…….ahh. Hot for Putin would be a good song if you like being spanked….
@Elizabeth Ayres Yep 🎯!!!
“We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” ~Thomas Jefferson
@Kelly Sanders Thank lord I never voted for those guys on TV.
Those singers never appealed to me. The political people give me more to think about.
“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” ~Plato
Plato, like Socrates, thought that only the educated, wealthy, elite ales should vote. This puts your quote in a little bit of a different perspective.
@Sprocket Head Yet, that doesn’t seem to make his statement, incorrect?
Go figure…
@Sprocket Head wealthy elites where normally the only ones with access to proper education or have the power to effectuate actual change in that era…
We shall overcome…..the song should be a National chorus
It should be the National Athem
Trump is like COVID: just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Well written Ma’am.
The symptom free carriers are the most dangerous.
@Randy Couch , Learn English.
@Randy Couch is a Russian troll.
No vaccine for racism.
@Randy Couch a really really big dummy
Hi, Doris! Good to see you, ma’am.
253? Only because that’s how they can continue to assure themselves of staying in office at every level of government. *Both* Houses need to stop pretending and deal with this *now* this week, this month, this year.
Yes! Trump ended all chance of civility and compromise. This is a tough tough fight and president Biden better realize it is a fight. We need to get all we can while we can. Don’t hesitate, crush it!
Not only is it racist in Geogia but bad business. If this goes through then big business will move out of Georgia in mass and quickly. Thus the addage “careful what you wish for”….
I agree, but this will only perpetuate the problem in the south. It’s like the Reconstruction in the south all over again. Georgia is racist, so big companies like Coca Cola and Delta Airlines relocate their headquarters, throwing tends of thousands of Georgians into unemployment, which just makes them more angry, and more racist, which them makes more companies leave…. All we’re missing is the Carpetbaggers.
If you believe you can never win again if everyone votes, then you need to consider what you are asking people to vote FOR.
It took me a minute but it registered thank you , that a great point
Yeah, they’re hurting their own base as well. What a waste of time and resources trying to fudge up the very system LEGAL voters use. Time to put in some real work and connect with people suffering on the ground.
You would have thought that that had crossed someones mind.
@jeff mcgowan So dumb huh but smart enough to take over the Senate the house in the White House so they must be smarter than the average Republican right
@Sprocket Head 🎯Yep, but the 🇺🇸USA will move ⏩ with “DEMOCRACY” in tact proactively.
Protect your right to vote, get your voter Id ready!
The tangerine toddler put this in motion again when he said when more people come out to vote the less chance Republicans have of winning. There was no widespread voter fraud. The problem was too many voters came out for the Democrats hence the Republican led state’s officials attempting out in the open voter suppression.
spoken like a true Brownshirt… you obviously watch a LOT of television news… stay away from the truth – the government says its bad for ya…
It’s despicable that elected officials are trying to suppress the votes of those who didn’t vote for them. How entitled!
@frog mann incorrect. But, you won’t listen. You are paid in rubles and krokodil.
@frog mann LOL I guess Trumps still has kool aid left.
@xDarkxArenx The supposed money he donated went to his own party LOL.
@xDarkxArenx you mean the china that paid millions to trump for empty office space
The trump that gave special treatment to trump’s children
The china trump praised for their actions with corona and its transparency
@philosophicalreason
🎯Yep, and Trumpfrogmannians that freely advance their 💸💸💸s to a poor leader.
Who put them up to it? 200+ people usually don’t come up with the same methodology all at once on their own. Somebody is coordinating this. Who?
The GOP has been gerrymandering for years.
If you’re afraid of people voting against you, or your party, then you have no business in public service. It seem more like self serving than people serving. There’s a reason for fear and that breeds corruption.
Stacey Abrams and her grassroot teams are the real heroes of modern democracy.
Every state needs a Stacey Abrams,. Now.
YES SHE AND HER TEAM ARE THE REAL HEROES OF OUR DEMOCRACY
PLEASE do not forget the HERO ground troops of the Warnock/Ossoff campaigns! THEY worked incredibly hard!
“If everybody actually voted, Republicans would never again win the presidency.” _~ Donald J. Trump_
@Dennis Vance wah wah baby needs his bottle 👶 🍼
@xDarkxArenx wtf you talking about. I never mentioned msnbc. I simply told one of you minorities that the truth hurts. Most people are not republicans you know that msnbc doesn’t aveto tell you that. Gerrymandering districts gie repubs advantage in the house, and remember the 15 smallest states who vote republican give us 30 senators, but gave a smaller population combined than the state of california, so that gives the repubs advantage in senate though the population doesn’t feel that way. If everybody who doesn’t vote, voted they would vote more socially liberal or democrats and republicans wouldn’t win anything
@toni mcclary relax stupid
@xDarkxArenx It has absolutely nothing to do with MSNBC. Trump said it, period. If you doubt it, then just copy/paste that quote into a Google search and see for yourself. He said it in May of last year.
Let’s stop using his name shall we.
The republican party aren’t committed to democray whatsoever.
@Moe Zura I think you need to read up on what is fascism and it’s definition. If you are anti-democratic process…well…you may be uneducated in what you think you’re talking about.
@MadCatMW02 fascists always think they’re anti-fascist (like ANTIFA)…
now, we have the democrats in Big Tech silencing the opposition on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube… fascism indeed.
Conservatives/Libertarians want a government SO SMALL that it can’t have such power over people… look in the mirror, Brownshirt.
@Moe Zura a government that is small, and does nothing for its people, doesn’t deserve to exist. That’s not fascism, that’s anarchy. And freedom of speech, is not freedom from consequence. The right wingers making it dangerous for societal normality, by believing and spreading falsehoods and conspiracy theories get removed. Speak the truth, have historical curiosity, and facts. Also, freedom of speech only applies to when the government shuts you down. Private companies can and do reserve the right to refuse service. Again, you need to educate yourself, have curiosity for the points you think you are making. I’ll happily debate ideals, if it’s worth the time, and both parties benefit from the conversation. The right has lost their way. So currently it’s not my responsibility to define fascism to you, or that history and words have meaning. Society and preserving progressing society go against what you may personally think…but you’re in the minority. In a democracy where majority rule for the benefit of all, bugs you? May want to take an inward look, and see why that is.
@MadCatMW02 “democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what’s for lunch. liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” – a real American
The United States of America is a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, not a democracy… tough to have an educated discussion with someone that doesn’t even know the BASIC FOUNDATION of their own country…
and the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is supposed to PROTECT the BORDER (provide for the common defense), settle disputes between the states, manage the Federal courts, and protect the citizens’ Constitutional rights – that’s it – end of story. The Constitution sets the framework for a “government” that is as close to anarchy as you can get. In America you should be able to be, do, and say whatever you want, as long as it doesn’t interfere with someone else’s right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Today we are about as far from FREEDOM and LIBERTY as you can get. You can thank professional politicians, the mainstream media, and fools like you for that…
“majority rule for the benefit of all”? where is that in the Constitution? maybe you should update the wikipedia page from whence your “education” comes…
@Moe Zura Nothing? I figured as much. Know how I know you dropped out in H.S.? You pulled right-winger 101: Projection. You have no real knowledge in what you think you do, so you Projected that as; I was uneducated. You claimed I was getting my knowledge from a wiki… well… allow me to correct you. I have a Masters in Comp-Sci, and my undergrad is in Poli-Sci. A heavy focus on American history as electives I just took for the fun of it. Oh, I have those from UT.
How’s that reading of actual books coming? Any progress and/or queries for me yet?
Republicans label election security issues as Black Christian voters and people giving voters water while waiting in line to cast their ballot.
