German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is under scrutiny for his country's lack of support to Ukraine during the war with Russia. CNN's Jake Tapper reports that Germany has not banned imports from Russia and has not sent a single weapon to Ukraine despite promising them back in April. #CNN #News

  1. Germany is struggling to come to terms of its dependence on cheap Russian oil
    Dismantling the nuclear plants across Germany left them with little other options to produce the level of energy they need for their industry
    Maybe reactivating old nuclear plants (if possible) might be a solution

  3. It’s true nobody in NATO has done what Germany has, which is get in the way and renege on promises made. There is no reason for this as Russia will be annexed by the West until Putin is gone. I am Canadian which has a population less than a 3rd of Germany and far less weapons for war, however we have given so far a little over $3 billion in assistance. I can’t understand why the games. While i am at Italy and France need to keep their noses out of Ukraines decisions. Do you either of those countries would give up more than 20% of their land to an invader. Thinking about it I guess they might

    1. There are restrictions on what type of weaponry a NATO country can send Ukraine. This is in long range rockets. Britain and the US were going to to ship radar guided artillery with a maximum range of 80 kilometers, there has been talk of allowing the use of the full range is 300 kilometers but that hasn’t been decided yet. The major sticking point is that Britain and the US are worried that ukraine will fire into Russia.The Germany restrictions you speak of are easily averted by shipping them first to one of the countries you named. So far there have been promises made by Germany but very little follow through. Perhaps you have not heard this, because you live in Germany. As far as my English goes, there is something wrong with my phone and has been for the last two days. After the first ten or so words the rest is disappearing below the key pad so I can’t see it to edit it. With no anger intended perhaps you can tell me what is wrong with the validity of the statement I have tried to write. I have typed this slowly hoping I am easily understood.

    1. @Otakun The vegan Germany did not start a war in 80 years. I like this policy. The war in Ukraine is at least as much a conflict between the USA and Russia as it is Russian-Ukranian.

      Germany has nothing to do with this war. I don’t see why everybody is complaining about Germany, especially Americans. If you meddle in affairs, clean up your own mess.

    3. Well, we were right NOT to invade Iraq in 2003. And we were right to give shelter to nearly a million syrian refugees in 2015, although it caused political turmoil.

    1. Truly, such sacrifice. The people of Germany really are an inspiration to the rest of Europe: those poor, lazy Southerners and those decadent, decrepit Westerners. Just like my twice convicted murderer Uncle Hans, who having found a lucrative legitimate job working for waste disposal company, is now the most upstanding citizen in my village.

      There is only economics, I completely see your point and I don’t doubt the rationale. But like it or not, state politics is on a scale of decades, not fiscal years. This war will find it’s way to Germany sooner or later and letting the US and Poland pick up the tab so Germany can continue to bury it’s head in the sand for another year is morally repugnant.

      Huh, I guess I care more about this than I thought 😂

    2. Chamberlain delayed the second world war for a year. Which gave the uk time to build up a well organized air force an air defence which made the battle for britain possible.

    3. Chamberlain had some flaws, but he immediately understood Hitler and the danger he posed and reacted with as much armament as possible.

    2. @Neffets Nnamremmiz Not true, UK has given more since the conflict began in absolute terms. Germany is only slightly ahead of Poland. If we look at contributions as % of GDP, Germany is behind Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, USA, Croatia, France, Italy etc

    4. I wonder, should Trump not have delivered military supplies? He instead had a perfect phone call with Zelensky. Putin might have interpreted that as an invitation. Strange how NS2 is such a hot topic and that the USA expects Germany to fight a war against Russia. Germany did not start a war in nearly a century. I like this new approach.

  9. Thanks for that objective report! As a german I feel sometimes ashamed that we don‘t do more. Just to give a little bit more context here: the debate here as if to deliver „Heavy“ weapons is right or not is HUGE here. There were even open letters to NOT deliver heavy weapons from some artists that have no expertise whatsoever about the matter, but they felt they don‘t want to risk a 3. WW (which is nonsense of course). Plus we have the far far lefties and rights who adore Putin and take his side, unfortunately sitting in the Bundestag. So they disturb where they can. In addition to that our army is very very ill-equipped! Military experts say that for years and the government had to borrow money to fund the army, because at this time we couldn‘t even defend ourselves against Russia. All those years we lived in the fantasy that there won‘t be another war we get involved in, and now some people are reluctant to wake up. I also have younger Friends that don‘t want to „meddle“ in „foreign“ affairs without really realizing we could be next. It‘s so outrageous. As if we hadn‘t have enough problems to address already.

    2. @Dmytro Bondal Very true. And then really, is keeping NATO necessary when the US is supposed to defend all allies but they can’t even support a concerted effort? If the US left the Europeans to mind their own security via whichever organisation, would things go better or more chaotic? If Ukraine would lose this war, WW3 would be just around the corner. And who then will panic?

  12. The disprepancy between Scholz´ words and his deeds is a shameful disgrace. He even ignores the parlament´s decision to deliver heavy weapons, by not signing the necessary export permissions. It´s said to say, but he´s a devious liar.

  17. simple really, German politicians have a very cozy relationship with Russian energy companies. In fact if you go look at who sits on the boards of the Russian energy companies you will see retired German bureaucrats and politicians.
