I have used weed for 50 years. I would not even think of going to an airport with weed anyone with any brains at all knows better than that. To release a real bad guy to forgive her stupidity is wrong. I don’t for a minute it was a hasty packing mistake. Weed is legal where I live but I am real careful about leaving my state with it and never would bring it to an airport.

Although I’m sure she is being used as a pawn by Russia, the fact remains that she put herself in a situation where she had a risk of losing her rights at any time when playing basketball in Russia. Also, she did, in fact, possess drugs at her arrest. Whether intentional or not, she is guilty of drug possession in a country where they could be very bad.
She got arrested even before Russia invaded Ukraine

Lesson learned here, if you pack in a hurry, leave drug paraphernalia that might have residue that is illegal where you are going and could lead to your arrest at home.
