I used ketamine while I was on heroin and methadone, I injected the ket into my vains, a very small amount a time for months and not only did I stop using, I got off methadone and my depression is a lot better. I would trip out a lot and if I put something nice on my phone it would guide me.

The discussion focuses (almost?) exclusively on psychiatric applications. The utility of psilocybin for cluster headaches is pretty widely known and I can attest first-hand to it putting my variant migraines into total remission for periods between 2 and 5 years at a time. I stumbled across this effect accidentally in the late 1980s as a result of recreational use. I’ve done this 8 or 9 times over the intervening 3 decades and arrived at a dosage regimen* that (for me) is reliable. I have noticed a need to escalate the dosages over the years, but as noted there’s a considerable safety margin.
Two particularly odd things:
(1) Counterintuitively, I take the mushrooms in three doses spaced over a week… but on a DESCENDING dosage. The most recent iteration, in February, 2022, was 9g, 7g, & 5g at three-day intervals. Those familiar with the dried fungus will recognize those as ‘heroic’ doses, but then we have the second odd thing:
(2) I have essentially lost any psychedelic effects; the initial large doses I take (following years of sobriety; no tolerance) result only in a feeling of slight clumsiness, insomnia for 8 to 10 hours, and rarely some fleeting closed-eye visual manifestations. The subsequent two doses have even less effect, mostly in the form of insomnia. I have dealt with a cop** under the influence and came off as very slightly intoxicated on alcohol.
Following each dose, I do feel a bit mentally sluggish the following day… not unlike an ethanol hangover minus the headache and gastric complaints. The process essentially blows a week, but the last thing I want is yet another prescription to take daily (or more). It’s a good trade-off for me as I am able to take the week off when needed once in a great while. It ends up cheaper too if amortized over 3 years, vs. Topiramate.
