20 years for us to be at war is a lot of time. To Afghans it has been thousands of years and they are willing to fight for thousands more.
My understanding is that the Taliban is largely composed of foreign elements who entered the country following the Soviet withdrawal. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
