West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for having an illegal action.
The International Cricket Council made the decision after examining the player’s action in an independent test.
“A comprehensive analysis revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted,” said the ICC.
Shillingford, 27, has 14 days to appeal or alter his action and be reassessed.
The off-spinner had his action reported by all four umpires following the first Test of a series against Sri Lanka in Galle.
The game was drawn with Shillingford collecting five wickets in the match to take his wickets tally to 14 in the five Test appearances of his career so far.
