It’s almost like universal health care should be a right.
@Brent Harrington and here we go…
We just went to get my fiance’s psych meds and sense he isn’t on any health care benefits all his pills costs 444.56. We can’t afford that! 😢
I have one med that is 700 and the other is 500, that’s 1200 a month for only 3!!
@Janis Hood Hmm, it begs the question … are there cheaper medications ?
Entire Healthcare industry needs an overhaul. Insurance companies and Pharma companies have too much power.
We need the right Congress in office to do that. How did you vote? Did you vote?
Not happening when 20 % of our gdp is healthcare it’s probably higher, how many old people does america have 40-50 million that’s high premiums right there. Maybe if america stopped sending aid to foreign countries we would be able to have universal health care and better infrastructure for dilapidated cities does flint still have clean water or what about all those small rural communities in Louisiana that have bad water like in flint if not worse.
ACA done that
Most in Congress own pharma stocks and we know why campaign dollars
Work 50 years, have a tiny nest egg if you’re very lucky, just enough not to be homeless, and have to offer it up to the medical machine just so you don’t die. Your whole life you were never working and saving for you, but to turn over everything to them. The terror to have the tests that can save your life is real because what if they find something? Even with insurance, you’re done financially. So you don’t get the colonoscopy or the mammogram. Sure you can afford the tests, but why if you can’t afford what’s next?
@mario St-Onge There are millions who voted for Bernie Sanders and others, Democrats who wanted the health care system fixed, but are being crushed by corporate dominance in both parties. And now heading for medical bankruptcies.
@mario St-Onge I hope that more come to their senses and vote blue. But 35+ years of many spineless /corporate Democrats contributed to current problems, not just GOP voters. The whole country has shifted strongly rightward for many years, and corporate influence is overwhelming both sides.
My husband and I are middle class. My husband has cancer that has metastasized. Our medical bills are rising. We are struggling to pay. So far I am healthy, but my anxiety over medical bills is getting to me.
@NPC FREDO
I agree.
@shade38211 Yep! I’m not poor enough for free stuff and am getting clobbered by medical costs. Co-pays, out of pocket, deductibles and things not covered add up real quick.
@Slothy How the hell is this Biden’s fault? This has been an issue for a long time.
Healthcare costs are already in the stratosphere without taking inflation into account.
No justification for pharmaceuticals company to do that. Absolutely not.
Nationality, medical expenses are primary cause of bankruptcy. When you consistently vote against your well being, this is what happens. Sad.
I thank God for living in a welfare state. (Denmark)
Why not vote for social medicine? Follow the European model. Have a SERVICE not a business.
That would mean changing stuff and we all know you vote to keep it the same old system don’t complain.
@Slothy I don’t believe that the majority of people would not wish to have affordable medical care. We know our NHS in the UK is not perfect but it’s better than USA. An elderly relative has had hip replacement surgery and has been in hospital for over 4 weeks. Included is a large amount of physiotherapy each day to help her get mobile again. Total cost – NOTHING
Please reach out to the companies that manufacture your medication. Many offer lower costs. Our health care system is a royal mess.
Wow. Maybe some kind of public funded health care, like most of the other developed nations, would be a good thing.
Healthcare and money should not be an issue when you get older, older people should be able to enjoy the last years of their lives without having to juggle the complex healthcare issues/bills with living expenses. I noticed the term “Golden Years” have fallen out of use, I can see why.
They shouldn’t be an issue, period.
I’ve (usually) little sympathy for my ‘cousins across the pond’ but, the cost of healthcare in the US astounds me.
An open question – I’m in the UK & just had a stroke, I spent 5 days in hospital, had 2 CT scans, an MRI scan, was cared for 24hrs a day, monitored, fed (not brilliantly but hey, it’s the thought that counts), spoken to by a neurosurgeon (who contacted ANOTHER neurosurgeon in London for a 2nd opinion), physiotherapists & an administrator who talked me through all my (free) medication, before discharging me – how much would all this have cost me (or my ‘insurance’ company) in the US? A lot?
Two days in the hospital here in oregon for a baby stroke cost me 75,000$.. now I’m bankrupt and homeless…
@Detritiv0re Very droll.
@Ken Nickelson American living in Europe and I am so sorry for the hell you are going through.
Even if you’d been in hospital for years you still pay nothing.
And, as an outpatient, follow-up care comes to your home and sorts out dressings/medication.
If you can’t walk and assessed to be housebound then we have an ambulance service (quite separate from paramedics) which will collect and return you if you have to attend an outpatient clinic for tests or treatment (radio therapy, say).
All comes out of our “taxes”.
Private medical care is available but merely reduces waiting times and you get a sort of “hotel service” in a private room in a private hospital.
The “actual medical care” will be exactly the same; nurses trained to a national standard, ditto doctors and surgeons.
(However, all is not completely perfect … recently we have found some of our maternity clinics are not quite up to par and are subject to ongoing investigation even as we type.)
Our NHS has a separate private “wing” named the Nuffield. Usually this is attached to a major hospital or sometimes within an NHS hospital itself but in private wards.
A “lot” more info online if arsed.
I’m going to guess at least 500k without insurance…. And at least 40k out of pocket for what isn’t covered. Insanity.
I like the U.S., but really, that is a problem that practically only Americans can have. Many of us who live outside the U.S. can simply not understand why so many of you are against universal health care. Dont you care about the welfare of your population?
So nice that Vanessa Yurkevich is able to benefit from the suffering of the middle class.
Remember it is Republicans voting NO on all health care issues. Vote accordingly.
I’m living in the Netherlands, I have family in Germany and I’m working with a lot of people from the UK and Ireland. As separete countries we see and acknowledge our differences. Some things are better here and some things are better over there. But when the question comes “would you ever want to live in the US?” the unanimous answer is “never!” Then everyone agrees because it is all of the following three reasons:
1) Undemocratic; Disproprtional senate not reflecting peoples vote.
2) Guns; The right to bare something that is made for the only reason to hurt or kill another living being.
3) Healthcare…….; see the people in this CCN interview.
I wouldn’t claim for a second that the NHS (National Health Service) here in the UK is perfect but it generally works very well and it is FREE 👍.
