@Dan Silverman The Russian Army has overrun Ukraine and Poland and is on its way to Lisbon, they just bypassed Kiev!
The French ones are self-propelled so they will cost a lot more than the M777s. The M777s can be towed by a regular truck as they weight 9000lbs but they need to be setup/collapsed each time they are moved so that takes longer than the all in one French artillary. The M777s can also be dropped into hot zones by helicopters.
The actually us army uses the SPA version of these very few units actually use the towed artillery anymore. Being able to set up and move and fire again is very important. That is why they are giving the Ukrainians the towed versions
It’s pure insensitivity or care for the loss of life. A couple hundred guns doesn’t go very far when you’re trying to cover a couple thousand kilometers of border and front. The Ukrainians have been an example of how to get the most out of the least. Setting that example has cost way to many lives. I can’t understand if the guns are available why their not shipped. Given the right equipment in the right amount would see the orcs running for home with no chance of regrouping this side of their border in very short order. In three months how many lives would be saved on both sides.
Sending it in bits and drabs is criminal when the Ukraine was promised a defense from aggression when they gave up their nukes. Do you think putin would be so outrageous if there were nukes on both sides of the border. The ones who made promises should get off the pot and live up to their word. Save some lives.

Ukraines best chance of making a good deal was before the war started, next chance was after Russian withdrawal from Kiev. Now is another opportunity to negotiate a ceasefire and a deal. Tomorrow the situation will be even worse. As some US military experts are saying there is no rational path for Ukraine to reverse what has happened. Germany, France too pushing for negotiation more than escalating the situation.
