Watch as jury reads verdict in Gwyneth Paltrow ski collision trial

A Utah jury has found Gwyneth Paltrow not liable in a 2016 ski collision case. Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, sued Paltrow, an Oscar-winning actor and the founder and CEO of Goop, over lasting injuries he said he sustained when the two collided at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah more than seven years ago. #CNN #News

  1. And all those people commenting saying she should’ve settled with him when it happened how you feel now 🤦🏽‍♀️🤡🤡

    1. @David C Clinton’s $850,000 payment to Paula Jones in 1998 settled a civil lawsuit. The payment was public and legal, and the funds did not come from the government, nor did they amount to a campaign contribution.

    1. @SaltyT3xanI wonder why him paying her legal fees wasn’t mentioned though? Only the $1 was mentioned?

    2. @Peter O’Hanraha-hanrahan sure there are. MLMs for example. They’re scammy but they’re not illegal.

    3. @Peter O’Hanraha-hanrahan Yup…..It’s called church. The ONLY THING they ALL agree on is ‘Tithes and offerings’. Amen?~~~~~>>Amen.

    1. He was suing for $300,000. His lawyer said the bill was much more than that. Both Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum said it was about principle. The judge should have saved a fortune in taxpayer court costs, thrown out the case and fined each of these lame, entitled idiots $300k for wasting the court’s time

    2. @King of the Juice Certainly not for Gwyneth Paltrow, Johnny Depp, OJ Simpson, Robert Blake etc etc.
Dream on; it is said that ignorance is bliss.

    3. @Erich Korman You misunderstood my comment. I was saying what should be true. But you’re simply irrational if you lump this trial in with O.J. Simpson’s.

  2. How you going downhill and get hurt by someone’s back, someone in front of you, if you’re not the one who ran into them. This man really thought he was gonna get a bag.

  3. Gwyneth is a ridiculous person at times, and we like to laugh at that, but she was absolutely getting scammed here. Glad the jury saw through it.

  4. Although she has a lot of money, her exoneration truly meant something to her, you could see it in her demeanor. Good for her.

  5. THE EVIDENCE WAS CLEAR. AND WITNESS TESTIMONY. While Paltrow was staying to the far right of the course, going downhill, and making small back and forth ski moves, the wild-and-crazy Sanderson was making HUGE angled, side-to-side sweeps of his skiis taking up the entire slope, and literally was seen angled TOWARDS PALTROW from the side, hitting her from her blind-side, and knocking her down. She was lucky to not have been killed. Then later, during cross-examination, Sanderson made a mockery of himself, and admitted he had a temper, was not following rules, was looking for a payday, kept giving different accounts of the accident, and making up pure fiction in his attempt to become a rich victim. Excellent verdict. Well done!

    1. Im glad the truth was clear to see in this case, however he should endure some consequence for bring false testimony against an innocent victim.

  6. I’m sure Gwyneth was jumping with joy inside, so kudos to her for keeping her facial expression in check and not rubbing it to the plaintiff.

    1. @L Wing: Don’t think so. I know a lot of 50 yr olds and with a bit of makeup they don’t look any different from her. In my opinion definitely not a Botoxer.

    2. I don’t think she was joyful so much as relieved and grateful to the jury for the verdict. She actually seemed to be on the verge of tears to me. Kind of like someone who was in a bad car accident and is able to walk away unharmed.

    1. I’m so happy for her. I can say I understand because I have been through two law suites that were eventually ruled frivolous. It’s so good to see that the jury saw through it. There should be penalty imposed in addition of legal fees. I didn’t hear the judge award legal fees. They will likely sue for that and win. My attorneys did and cleaned house on the vermin. These types of law suites go on for about 4-5 years (in my case and hers). A good defense lawyer runs $500 an hour. To begin with you pay for lots of research and fact gathering hours for your lawyers clerks ($75 per hour).. Depending on motions and what not you’re looking at around $100k minimal per year. The people that sue you usually don’t pay their lawyer BECAUSE he agrees to represent and take a chunk (usually 60%) of judgement. When you actually go to court and pay for expert witnesses (I happen to be one) that runs easily $250k a week. It is not fair that this little man can do that and take a swing. He should pay and I suspect he will be ruined by end of his last breath. Living in Utah…..this is embarrassing !!!

    2. @M Oliphant Gwyneth Paltrow most likely has insurance for this type of lawsuit. Her insurance company is the one paying for her legal defence. They realized that Terry Sanderson did not have a chance of winning so they decided against a settlement and went to court. Paltrow and her insurance company were suing for one dollar plus court costs. Sanderson is now on the hook for his legal costs plus the costs of Paltrow’s legal costs. That is going to be one huge bill. Yes, he will probably be ruined financially. But he decided to go to court and pursue the case. His original lawsuit was for $3 Million and later was reduced to $300,000. His legal team out to lunch for initially suing for $3 Million. They were probably hoping for a settlement of $300,000. but that did not happen.

  7. Ms. Paltrow wisely presented herself soberly and seriously. I hope the Plaintiff’s attorney was working on a contingency basis. Good judge. Not seeking celebrity.

    1. Actually, I think you would prefer that Sanderson has to pay his attorney. And the dollar to Ms. Paltrow.

  8. I only came here to see why she was in court, but I have to say that if I was on trial for something I hope I have a judge like that. He was so calm and chill.

  9. It makes sense now why people are becoming scared to leave their own homes – risk of being sued by others for the most bizarre cases. This Gwyneth Paltrow ski collision trial and another trial whereby a surfer tried to sue another surfer for stealing his wave! We certainly live in a compensation culture whereby we’re seeing people suing others for whatever they can get out of things.

    1. @Baubles and Dolls  I don’t buy that at all. I think she stood up for the principle of it. He was a scammer and rather than paying him one nickel she let him take her to court. Wish more of these scammers were presented to us in trials with Court TV airing it all.

    2. @amy butchas I don’t. But, the only two movies I had seen her in were trash.

    3. @amy butchas: Amy, this is a legitimate question: can you explain to me what her job or previous job has to do with this lawsuit?

    4. @Baubles and Dolls: That’s exactly the point, she didn’t have to go through any of this. But she did because she had the guts and the decency to stand up for those who don’t have the financial means to fight off a$$holes in a courtroom. This guy, Sanderson, was an idiot who thought it was still the 70s when you could buy a judge and split the proceeds. He just got schooled.

  10. I admire the defense for not settling a frivolous claim and forcing the plaintiff and his attorney to the time and expense of a jury trial. Too often, defendants settle to make claimants go away. Occasionally, defendants need to call their bluffs.

    2. She still spent a lot of money on lawyers since she only sought 1 dollar in damages

The plaintiff is lucky she probably felt bad for him

    1. @Canadian Beef: But we’re not talking about anonymous, metaphorical or random ‘celebrities’ here, were talking about a particular individual real actual person who, to my knowledge, has no past history as a bully.

  11. No one should be above the law, but in this case I’m glad the celebrity stood her ground and justice was served.

  12. She has such class, not showing any emotion or trying to rub the conman’s face in the fact that the world saw right through him
