Virginia Becomes A Case Study For What Democrats Can Do When They Control The Levers Of Power
Conservatives, in pursuit of long-cherished policy goals, can no longer avoid the reality that the GOP is vandalizing the principles and integrity of our democracy.
Very well said
It costs 3x’s more to house a death penalty person.. That will actually save the State money which can go towards education!
That’s because they are clueless to what they are doing, how much does one bullet cost?
Funny how the GQP claims to be in favor of democracy, yet at the same time work so hard to undermine it. From gerrymandering, to Citizens United, to voter suppression, to outright trying to overturn the 2020 election. Like, that sure is an odd way to show you support our democracy. 🤔🙄😅😂
Funny how wolfy is 6ft under
also stopped wasting police time on pot heads.
I’m am proud of VA!
Man, yesterday I said this was stupid, this comes out just days after two mass shootings, and I believed both of the shooters deserved an expedited execution yesterday to show we don’t mess around. But this guy just helped change me, and I been thinking all week about how I feel about executions. And this man is right, two wrongs don’t make a right and never have and never will. Plus, I think life in prison is more torture for the monsters who deserve it, and spending a life in prison means they will eventually die in prison. They still die in prison this way, execution is a short cut that is a wrong and doesn’t help make anything or anyone feel right or better after the fact.
Those shooters need to rot in prison being haunted by what they did…I too used to be for the death penalty until I kept hearing about ppl who were put there who did not commit the crime and are killed only later to find out they were innocent. Keeping murderers alive is the best sentence and it gives lawyers time to do the investigating they need to get those innocent out of prison and be paid for the time they were in there.
So more tax money to keep the felons
@Marie-Flo Reddy pretty much.
@Marie-Flo Reddy it literally costs more to execute people than to keep them in prison for life. Learn some facts.
Another step toward getting nearer to becoming civilised.
Ya we just need to get all restrictions on abortion lifted then we are there!
For myself the biggest consideration is, how many of those 1400 that were executed were actually innocent. At least 1. One is one too many.
number is probably more in the hundreds
Precisely!
That governor is brave man. Virginia, hold your heads up.
Same emotions with Ann Frank exhibition. Reminds people we all are humans.
About capital punishment:
I USED to be big-time “pro”.
Now, at least, I’m trying to get over the fence.
And I AM northern Virginia.
think about being convicted of a crime you did not do and be sentenced to execution
@Richard Raymond I’m working on it. Your comment helps.
Proud to be a Virginian today! Good job Gov. Northam.
for all the heinous criminals who would’ve received the death penalty,
I’d prefer they know a fate worse than death, lol
Good for you Virginia. Nice to see some good news coming out of America.
as a virginia native, i’m proud of the commonwealth.
Turn tobacco fields into weed fields, legalized marijuana!
I just don’t think a human should be making a decision to execute another human. Nobody deserves to have that kind of power. Just leave them in prison. Get rid of populated jails thru other means.
Virginia is a civilized society. It is possible, even in America.
I’m for the death penalty but if it makes them happy, so be it.
Thank you, Gov. Northam. The death penalty is inequitable, useless, and cost way more than keeping a person in jail. Way to go Virginia. I am so proud of you all. “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis.” Abraham Lincoln.
