US provided intel that helped Ukraine target Russian warship

When Ukraine successfully targeted Russia's prized warship last month with anti-ship cruise missiles, it had some help from the United States. Ukrainian forces, having spotted the Russian warship in the Black Sea, called their American contacts for confirmation that it was in fact the Moskva, sources familiar with the events told CNN. The US responded that it was, and provided intelligence about its location. #CNN #News

  1. Why can’t the media keep that information under the rug, not everything should be shared with the public.

  2. There’s unconfirmed reports that another Russian warship has sunk in the Black Sea. It is reported that the “Admiral Makarov” was hit by Ukrainian missile or missiles, and caught fire.

    1. @slightlygrouchyOnce on sale world wide it will be a major income for Ukraine it will be in demand for years

  3. shouldn’t that be top secret information, still shouldn’t talk about it unless trying to get Russia to retallate.

    1. The US and nato has never been afraid to confront russia. Putin can’t do much accept lose the war in ukraine

  4. this seems like something you would not want to announce unless you want the us to be drawn into war with russia

  5. One has to wonder how could Russia be such an ignoramus, and slip in detecting and dealing with such intelligence and their resourceful potentials.

    1. its because of those 2 boat being sun and snake island being hit, they brought the Admiral Makarov back closer.. it was 100 miles out to be safe.. now its on its way to being sunk

  6. Aren’t we supposed to reveal these sort of stuff after the war is over? I know that it sends a message but I’m not sure if Russians will interpret it as an existential crisis

    1. @Piojo Loco russia celebrates victory over the germans in WWII on may 9. everyone is expecting putin to make some announcement/do something batshit crazy. bring your popcorn.

  7. US: im not saying russias military ship will be sitting at this location on this day.. But if you drop a bomb on this loacation on this day at the time . Russias warship will be destoryed somehow.

    1. The real question is are they providing live data links to guide the missiles from over the horizon from inside a Nato country.

  8. I cannot imagine that this is helpful for the United States to talk about this in public. Why does this information need to be told ? Isn’t there anything sacred anymore should we keep our mouth shut and just keep doing what we’re doing without telling the world ?

    1. That’s why media should not be allowed information on things such as this. A war should be kept between the parties involved.

  9. What do people think war is? ” All is far in love and war!” this is Ukraine ‘s survival and if the US, UK, or any Nato country to help them vs. Russia ‘s invasion and genocide! I hate war, but Ukraine deserves to survive at all cost. Russia and people supporting it need to realize when you start a war, you deserve what you get IMHO.

  10. If there is any problem with the whole intelligence sharing situation, we can just claim that we were helping Ukraine avoid targeting merchant vessels. Problem solved.

  11. Russia is having major intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) troubles in eastern Ukraine.

It’s no wonder their combined arms operations have failed so miserably — you don’t win on a modern battlefield without situational awareness and good communications.

    1. @SkOz you don’t understand how a war us fought against an overmatched opposition…lure them in circle around cut off the supply choke the advance…seems be a good strategy I’m seeing

  12. ‘The Admiral Makarov, like the missile cruiser Moskva, has been reclassified as a submersible warship and is currently undergoing sea trials with its full crew; everything is going according to plan.’ – Vladimir Putin

  13. Technically, there’s no way those missiles should have been able to hit that ship. It’s not our fault the Russians forgot to pay their ADP security bill.

  14. “Oh hey russia… Its the U.S. here. Operational security means nothing so we just wanted to let you know that we helped ukraine sink your battleship.”

  15. i love how when this first started that putin threatened “severe consequences” to “anyone that provided any aid to Ukraine” yet slowly each major country is calling putins bluff, just for example the US alone has been feeding weapons, people, and intel to Ukraine. so much for severe consequences.

    1. @SkOz pretty sure the Russian economy is tanking too I’m not sure what your going on about

    2. @Taras Wertelecki I don’t think he’s gonna do anything, he’ll he’s losing to Ukraine so I don’t have high expectations of him

    1. The Russian side had accused the US of giving Ukraine intel since the first days of the attack on the ship.

    2. That’s kinda what the news is for. Ask Russian and N Korea how they like not getting info.

    3. Why is it , your president has been addressing the world each week/day sending millions of dollars to help fund the Ukrainians, from day 1
      As have France, uk, Germany

  16. News organizations need to be cautious and responsible when reporting stories like this… I think the NYT was irresponsible for publishing that info so early in the war

    1. It’s not the press that’s the problem. It’s the people who leaked the information to them.

  17. UKRAINE: *”IS THAT THE MOSKVA SITTIN OUT THERE?”*
AMERICA: *”YES IT IS AND IT’S LOCATED EXACTLY RIGHT HERE…WHY DO YOU ASK?”*
UKRAINE: *”OH, WE WERE JUST WONDERING….NOTHING TO SEE HERE…”*
