The actual rate is called the incident fatality rate (# of deaths / total # of people who have had the disease). Based on antibody studies the IFR of Covid-19 is 0.1% like the flu. @errgsd Best way to protect vulnerable people is for everyone to wear a mask in public to slow the rate of infection cuz even if you don’t get sick you can still pass it on to people who will. Not worth it to open indoor spaces where large groups of people gather in close quarters–bars, restaurants, movie theaters, churches, etc. The cost-benefit shows it’s not worth it. Opening schools right now seems like another potential disaster as viruses can spread through a school like wildfire and even if kids don’t get sick from it, their parents and teachers certainly will. I’ve continued to work throughout this whole thing. Everyone wears a mask and we stagger shifts to minimize the number of people in the office at any one time plus a lot can be done from home. I don’t go to bars and restaurants and always wear a mask when indoors in public places like the supermarket. I feel comfortable that I’m taking appropriate precautions so I don’t get sick and don’t pass it on to someone vulnerable.
