Under Trump, Formerly Stalwart CDC Goes Soft On Meat Plants | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

Rachel Maddow looks at how the CDC's guidance on worker safety against COVID-19 infection in meat processing plants appears distinctly, and unusually, less forceful than CDC guidance has been in other situations in different presidential administrations. Aired on 04/28/2020.

  1. If you care about yourself and your family you will completely disregard everything the Trump Administration says! EVERYTHING!

    1. By the way:

CDC: 80,000 people died of flu last winter in U.S., highest death toll in 40 years By Associated Press
      September 26, 2018<<<<<! https://www.statnews.com/2018/09/26/cdc-us-flu-deaths-winter/

Perhaps we should not allow Flowers to grow, being some may not live till October?
I mean, what if it does not rain enough for all flowers to live long?
Since we have doubts , lets not let nature be nature at all.

In some years as few as 3,349 have died (back in 1986-7). But the highest annual average toll was 48,614, just seven seasons ago (2003-4).

Why did we lock down exactly?
Based on linear statics of a holistic reality?

OK. perhaps human intelligence in in regression or depression ?

I sure would say so, how do we calculate that probability?

As Albert Einstein once said to me: “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity.” But what is much more widespread than the actual stupidity is the playing stupid, turning off your ear, not listening, not seeing.

  2. This is madness. In Canada we are ALREADY starting a criminal investigation on a meat plant that stayed open with an outbreak. Alberta’s biggest outbreaks are from 2 meat plants, Cargyl and JBS…..

In what world is ones ability to buy fresh meat worth having others die?

    1. @Some Guy The meat packaging plants are staying closed in the United States by the Democrats who want the Green New Deal!… This entire charade has been to accomplish an agenda. If you can’t see that, then I’m not sure how to help you! You are already too far gone and you’re part of the problem! AGAIN: Every liberal trying to save the environment and animals while they type comments on their smartphones created by slave labor while they sit on their comfy coaches, in their heated homes also possible by fossil fuels!

It’s always the same BS…. Mention the truth and all of you change the subject with your crazy theories and ideologies! If it wasn’t for the bad decisions by WHO and our useless government, we would not be in this situation in the first place! Keep on voting for communism and you will get exactly what you asked for! You need to check your privilege!

    2. @Josh Vincent Glad to hear it. It gets easier and easier. Even after years eating this way, I keep finding new recipes and plant based foods I enjoy.

  3. THIS is investigative journalism. This kind of fearless fact finding is more important now than ever.

    1. @Biker Adam
I’m a senior & the point most ppl miss is nobody gets out of this alive. Living in fear robs life.
Geeez, I havent heard Watts mentioned for 30+ years. After VN war, meditation became a practice
      to manage recurring stress.
It is a sad time & having poor leadership never helps.
      Also try
Collective venting on the boards could lead to change bc we all know big brother is watching. Maybe they will take a hint.

    2. @Biker Adam”how many of you need someone”
…. and here you are telling other ppl how to think!!
      LMAO

    3. @Vote him Out I’m telling people to think for themselves.
I don’t want anyone to think like me.
Laugh all you want. I made a big enough impression on your life, you had to take time to respond to me…

    4. @Chris F I’m very nutral. If I die I die, if not I’ll live. I don’t care about anyone else. No matter what I do, some day far off in the future, the whole world is going to end. I’m just enjoying the time I have here.

  4. Remember how we always accuse every administration of incompetence based on our political beliefs ? We might have despised our leaders but we always felt safe that the country was in good hands. This time it’s so obvious that it’s almost impossible that the next Presidents will do worse. 🤦‍♂️

  5. Imagine going to a restaurant and seeing a sign in the restroom that reads “If feasible all employees must wash their hands before resuming work”

    1. @Moe don’t read stuff. Look up facts.

About 60 mill people live in Italy.
They have had about 30,000 corona deaths.
The USA has about 330 mill people and only about 72,000 deaths.
Can you please show the math on how America has more death per capita?
We have about 5 1/2 times the people as Italy.
We would have to have around 165,000 deaths just to tie them.
Keep looking at stuff to get your” facts” or do your own research . I don’t really care.

Just interesting what some on here consider truth

    2. @Moe I just picked Spain at random.
      47 mill people 26,000 deaths.
We would have to have 145,000 plus to tie.

I don’t know what else to say… Stop watching the “news”

    3. @Biker Adam And you had almost a month to prepare while they had no warning. 140,000 dead by August is nothing to crow about. It’s disgraceful.

    4. @Moe it is what it is. Seems like a lot of people need to have someone to blame when they feel things might come to an end .
No matter what you do or say. What’s going to happen, will happen. You can’t change a thing.
      I’m choosing to enjoy myself.
I wander when all the people start dying from not getting there surgery. Or not catching things in time because we can’t go to the Dr for check ups. Or starve because theyhave no money for food.
Will those deaths count as covid deaths?
Divorce rates, spousal and child abuse is on the rise.
Suicides also. So many things being ignored right now.

    5. @Biker Adam And that attitude toward the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans: “Who cares if people die as long as I can get my nails done. It is what it is”, is the very reason the entire world is looking at you all like you’re psychopaths. It’s like you don’t know how truly fk’d up that is. People are laid off in every country, the difference is every other developed nation has programs to ensure people have food, don’t lose their homes and have medical coverage. Every one but America, which considering you’re the wealthiest country on earth that spends hundreds of billions a year on your war machine, is absolutely pathetic.

    1. lol dictatorships are run along those lines. Just look at Russia, Nth Korea, China and now it could be America with Trump.

  6. Has anybody come to the realization that we are a dime a dozen to them? THEY do not care so long as THEY are making money.

    1. @Vote him Out Their economy may now relies on those plants, but we have seen many disruptions to businesses from technology and other reasons. With proper leadership, their workforce can transition to new careers doing something more sustainable, like jobs in solar and wind energy for example. Animal agriculture is not sustainable. It affects climate change more than all transportation combined.

    2. @Some Guy Thats the exact issue … what leadership?
If there were accountable leaders this wouldnt be happening now. They knew the risks involved.

    3. Holly/ Back in the 60s it was a plan “Zero population growth” The morons sent peace corps, Hospital ships, Agriculturists. By the 70s they realized matter no how much USA sends to the third world… it wont help until you remove the dictators. Shift alt delete..90s they came up with a plan to reduce world population by 1/3.

    4. Another elite that doesn’t anything about anything, the day you about to be homeless and know what is hangar you will know the real true , mean time give me break

  7. “What CDC is this?” This is The Trump Administration’s CDC, Rachel. We know that he gutted both the CDC, the National Pandemic Response Team, and defunded WHO. Perhaps he wants to be remembered as Stalin, who killed as many of his own people as Hitler.

    1. @cocomo Maybe to influence his tariff war with them? He doesn’t seem to be as eager to help USA citizens, especially in Blue states.

    2. @Some Guy You know, the tariff war creates concerns/ conspiracy theories about the timing of this pandemic ?

    3. @cocomo Fun to speculate. I like to keep an open mind, but it seems far fetched when so many other epidemics have come from animal exploitation.

    4. @Some Guy Speaking of which, I’m worried about migratory birds pooping in my Tortoise habitat

  8. The entire scientific community has been censored since the beginning of the Trump administration. That’s right, the literal scientific language normally used to convey specific meaning was censored. It affected all aspects of human care, medical doctors, CDC, research, etc.

    1. Yes, and while he takes his short break in the overcrowded break room he can read “Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck. Of course at his reading level, it will take him 10 years to finish the book.

    2. Michael Scire Too many big words in Steinbeck. Meaning words over five letters. And no pictures or graphs (not that he can read graphs, but he seems to enjoy them) and his name would need to be added to each paragraph.

  9. It’s just more confirmation that the USA has been transforming itself into a 4th world country in record time.

    1. Trump did promise to run the nation like one of his businesses. The only successful Trump businesses are the ones that he has no direct control of. The 5 bankruptcies were all projects that he had a direct hand in controlling. So, he actually is keeping one of his BIG promises. To be fair, the economy is in a deep hole because of the virus quarantine. We would be in a much shallower hole without the virus.

    2. Did you notice Korea and NZ got this under control pretty quickly? This fact should be an embarasment to every American, and particularly to the red hats. But with magical thinking, any reality is possible.

    1. Then let’s hope he continues touching the Democratic Party and their co-conspirators like Madcow.

    2. By the way:

  10. THE ROT IN AMERICAN GOVERNANCE IS LAID BARE FOR ALL TO SEE, BECAUSE IT IS TOP OR RUN BY A CORRUPT PRESIDENT.

    1. The system also puts too much power in the hands of one person. That needs to change. It’s not enough to just replace him. Or someday you could end up with a president who is just as corrupt but a lot smarter about hiding it.

  11. To this administration these workers are considered collateral damage, expendable and unvalued human beings. Trump through his order is committing a crime against humanity.
