Twitter agrees to sell itself to Elon Musk

Twitter said it has agreed to sell itself to Elon Musk, who will take the company private in a deal valued at around $44 billion.
The deal caps off a whirlwind news cycle in which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO became one of Twitter's largest shareholders, was offered and turned down a seat on its board and bid to buy the company — all in less than a month.

    1. @PerryMason420 A hostile takeover occurs when an acquiring company attempts to take over a target company against the wishes of the target company’s management. An acquiring company can achieve a hostile takeover by going directly to the target company’s shareholders or fighting to replace its management.

The fact the board agreed to it makes what Musk did not a hostile takeover.

  1. Elon’s move was super tactical. With Q1 profits coming out the board was in a position they couldn’t turn down the offer- Twitters profits were low and cratering. He literally made an offer they couldn’t refuse

    1. @Veronica Rainone You serious? Then maybe you should tell the Republicans not to cacnel Liz Cheny. Anyway, what is it exactly do you mean by ‘cancel culture’?

  2. Lol just days earlier Stelter said he thought Elon was trolling and wasn’t serious – nice one mate

  3. Let me explain something. When the board votes unanimously to approve a deal, it’s NOT hostile.

    1. @EliteLenny you have words to counter them, you have a block button to prevent them from being in your timeline – the hyperbole is astounding with you folks. This WHOLE things is not about what someone would say, the fear is someone will listen, and if you fear someone listening to what someone says enough to remove them from the town square – then your argument or viewpoint is weak, and cannot stand to scrutiny.

  4. Agreed is a strong term… they knew they would get their azzez sued off if they didn’t. They didn’t have a choice, stockholders best interests come first over idiocy. 🤣🇺🇸

  5. 2:14 So she’s saying free speech should not be the goal of a social media platform, but instead to prevent “misinformation”. Well, not surprising considering this is CNN, but still disappointing

    1. @SmoothLegend This might sound harsh, but the reality is that not a single democrat or the ones who vote for them have a proper moral compass. Give how these social interaction based tech companies like to support them, they are pretty much for sure in that group as well. For many in this group, they are professing the truth and defending it against lies and bigotry. Issue is that to explain why their moral core is absolutely bankrupt is a complex discussion and none of them are remotely interested because they think they are right. So the way I see it, perhaps what we do need is a single overlord. There is a better chance of finding one good man than a whole lot of them in the times we live in.

    2. @Michael Ray Overby That was so childish, I can’t tell whether you’re close or not, but fee speech under the First Amendment only restrains the government.

  6. Now I can see an avenue for regulations being adopted by congress to finally deal with the misinformation crap we have been suffering from for years.

  7. I love watching the talking heads at CNN squirm lol. I also love how they’re worried about misinformation, THEY’RE THE BIGGEST SOURCE OF MISINFORMATION LOL

  8. This is right in line with Musk’s life objective at this point – to unilaterally shape the future we live in. Dare I say, he might do it.

  9. He has said that there will be a place for free speech, WITHIN the confines of the law. Unlike these host, he does understand that you still cannot threaten harm, or say things that will cause harm either physically, nor emotionally.

  10. If Elon releases all documents on what was limited and trashed, it will be epic and restore some faith in social media. Go Elon 🙌

  11. “If there is total freedom for everybody, would you want to go to that party”-Brian
    That’s called America, Brian.

    1. Honestly I kinda see what he is trying to say. Kind of a “if you don’t like it, then don’t sign up” kind of thing, which is how people who are upset about this deal should react instead of bitching about it.

    2. @Hyyde Exactly, if they aren’t happy about it, they should make their own platform. lol
Do you prefer to go at a party with total freedom, or do you prefer to stay home ? what kind of question is that

  12. Well it was either sell to Elon, or face prison time for not taking an offer many times over what the stock was worth.
When you don’t even own any stock in Twitter, it is easy for the board to look out for their own pocketbooks rather than the shareholders.

    1. I don’t think they can go to prison for not selling a company. They would just be kicked off the board and lose the money they are being paid to sit on the board as will as the prestige of being on the board.

  13. More dangerous than “misinformation” is partisans deciding what is and is not “misinformation” for the rest of us.

    1. Correct .. let everyone speak… those who establish themselves as truthful sources always distinguish themselves over time.

  14. This assertion by CNN and other networks that Elon will just let everybody do or say what they want on Twitter is actually pretty ridiculous. I think at best you will see the site’s defacto role as a publisher somewhat diminished.

  15. Obviously Elon had something unusual in mind for some time now well before making this commitment.
Its interesting to imagine what changes he and his teams have been imagining 🤔.
Will the first change be some type of new super algorithmic data collecting processor(s) that possibly detects misinformation?
It seems he usually starts off with basic problem solving methods, but that type of solution appears the T&E phase could go on for some time before being effective. 🤔
