Trump did attend Norman Vincent Peale’s self-love sermons (as did his mother and father) when he was young. I suspect that after his father sent him off to military school the visits to Peale’s church lessened. Peale’s church was referred to as cultlike by some experienced observers, and Peale’s emphasis on “positive” thinking (which apparently at times bordered on “magical” thinking) is where Trump has gotten much of the foundation for his extremely dangerous disconnection from reality.
