On “looking down” I’m not sure if we are talking about the same thing. I try to be even in my estimation of others – on first “encounter” but then it’s fair (to me) to – yes – ‘judge’ them… & maybe even give them a 2nd & 3rd chance. But after that, the call not to be “judgemental” is mistaken IMHO. Yes, you’re right to avoid hate, but there’s a difference in letting the offending party “off the hook” in some form of “hate the sin but not the sinner.” I’m not an atheist but reflexively (from a strict RC “convent” school background) buck religion; that said, you’re right as to the embrace of the spiritual to get through the dark… I light my candles… & not just at night.
If it’s any comfort, your particular health problem is the most “benign” of all in that category; many go for years & have something else “finally” be the “biggie” & as to your spouse’s COPD, it covers such a wide area. Yes, “chronic” means ongoing, but if it’s not “progressive” it can be “managed” & “livable” – but of course, in the current viral environment, it’s a culprit which you don’t need working against you. It’s a difficult time for all of us & more than usual there’s “venting” in even more nasty form online. I sincerely hope I didn’t “bum you out” personally. I’ve been called many things & ‘hippie’ was one of them, way back; I did see Jerry Garcia play… but only once.

Our political leaders don’t care for us except in the sense a farmer cares for his livestock. I think that Trump is a lout and, while being intellectually inferior to most Presidents, he is not morally nor ethically inferior. Trump is a pretender. I don’t know who is holding Trump’s leash but whoever it is they are formidable. Maybe Putin? Could be that PUtin will go down in history as the most effective military commander since Genghis Khan. I digress. Prostate cancer is among the slowest and least agressive. It’s still no fun. I have a friend dying of metastatic lung cancer and he only has a few months. Doctors tell me I should last 5 to ten years but they can’t promise anything. Trump has effectively ruined the diplomatic corps as well as any effective leadership out of his cabinet. The USA is dead. Trump is the last nail in the coffin.
