@Rhonda Wasson that’s a myth being pushed by the left and the Democrats more recently because they are ashamed of their history. Here are proper independent educational references that outline why and when the African American vote transferred to the Democrats. In short it was due to the recession in the 1920/30’s when black unemployment was running twice as high as whites and the Democrats offered more in their policies (new deal) targeted towards them. There was no shift of political philosophy as others suggest. The parties didn’t switch but some of their voters did to some degree. The Democrat party is still the one that has the dark history and the fact that both the presidential and VP candidates come from slave owning families somewhat confirms that.
