Loyalty? Elected officials don’t get to demand loyalty. They can only expect support. Support based and dependant on their actions. Support they’ve earned and have to continue earning to maintain. Just as an example, one CAN sell bibles and not pay federal taxes so long as the organization is set up properly. You can even sell them FOR profit and not pay federal taxes. LLCs are treated as “flow-through” entities for tax purposes, for example. Taxes only apply to owner income, just as a pastor must pay income tax on anything received from the church that isn’t housing allowance. And yes, both business owners and pastors routinely falsify deductions and allowances.
The difference is that pursuing business owners is far more politically palatable than pursuing pastors.
