Transgender, nonbinary pregnancy: Why inclusive language is important | USA TODAY

Trystan Reese, a transgender man who gave birth to a son in 2017, says a change in language signals a positive shift toward inclusivity.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Reese and his partner, Biff, adopted two kids, Hailey and Lucas, in 2016. The following year, Reese gave birth to his son, Leo. "Families like mine, like ours – transgender families, LGBT families – we want the same things that everyone else does," Reese said.

Laws have only recently started to include gender-neutral language, Reese said. Several state bills enacted in 2019 use gender-neutral language. And the pandemic has spurred some states to take a critical look at health care-related laws and update terminology, Reese said.

  1. Wouldn’t this just make a kid _more_ likely to question their gender? Surely it’s better to do what’s usually done, ie accept the gender they’re born with, then be open to the possibility of them perhaps being transgender without basically encouraging it.
I feel like this kid is just destined to become confused… Perhaps even feel somehow obligated to be / feel “different”…

    1. Then should I go back in the closet just because I am a proud transgender uncle to some of my best friend’s kids?

    2. @Terence Hardy Umm, what? I have nothing against transgender people. I just don’t think you should mess with a kid’s head just because you, as their parent, have certain ideas.

    3. @You have no power here Okay, you have that right to belief on how to raise a child. But may I ask, what do you mean by “mess with a kid’s head just because you, as their parent, have certain ideas”?

    4. @Lucky 1989 The hypothetical kid that @You have no power here was thinking about. I think? They are talking about how they would raise their hypothetical child I am gathering.

  2. When masking different as normal, and forcing normal to be different…. Inclusive is the new exclusive.

    2. @XtremeNeed What’s your endgame in asking me if I need attention? I am just trying to educate.

    1. @Bo Rood I wish you all the best too. Wow this is a rare interaction in a YouTube comment section

    2. @Terence Hardy I’ve even edited my comment from twisted to unknown, so that’s not as insulting. I just think a lot of people don’t understand this phenomenon. It’s a very tough situation people are still getting used to it

  3. There is a very strong and powerful man😇 who helped me bring back my ex-husband who left me a few months ago, and now my ex-husband is back. I am very grateful.

  4. If you are trans and/or nonbinary identifying, please take care of yourself and stay away from this toxic comment section.🌸❤️

  6. I object to the Equality Act proposed by the Democratic Party.
The Equality Act is a lie. From the Father of lies, Save Us, O Lord.
God created mankind in his image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
