Thousands were left without power after a severe thunderstorm struck College Park, Maryland, in the Washington area, and other parts of the state on July 12. Local media reported that more than 100,000 people were left without power in Maryland and 47,000 in the DC region after the storm downed power lines and uprooted trees.
