This is the single most important political story in 2021

Despite losses in the House, Senate, and the White House, Republicans still have one bright spot on the horizon: redistricting. In this latest episode of The Point, CNN’s Chris Cillizza explains why district-drawing is so important.

    1. Texas…. ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION CAN Not only secede BUT ( with the help of 37 other States) can also take over Washington DC and boot the existing Government OUT !

    2. Yes, I know and have had several conversations with all of my representatives from Township through U.S. Senators.

    1. The more you learn about the american political system, the funnier it gets that America dares to call itself a democracy.

The US is as much democratic as China and Russia are.

    1. @James Gentry Well given what’s going on in the Republican Party atm, it sounds like a fantastic idea. It’d certainly fix the gerrymandering.

    2. @James Gentry naw. Gerrymandering just doesn’t make any sense at all to begin with. It should be the most votes per person. Democracy

    3. @James Gentry I do like what @truejim posted in another thread. This would do away with al lot of the gerrymandering but still make if fair for both sides, or at least make it much better. My remarks were one of frustration at the ridiculousness of gerrymandering, and also the fact that under Trump the Republicans that enabled him have divided the country even further. Take a look, if you haven’t seen it already, this is something I think that both sides could agree with. Thoughts?

  1. *Gerrymandering must be made illegal. The claim that it harms the opposing political party is a false narrative. The truth is that it harms and disenfranchises voters from having an accurate representative election.*

    1. The only problem is that the only way for it to become illegal is for the same politicians who benefit from gerrymandering will have to write the laws that make it illegal.

    2. I guess that’s why the democracy index has the USA down as an incomplete democracy (which I hope will someday get through to the people always screaming how it is the world’s shining example for democracy). I’m baffled how it can be called a democracy at all unless every vote counts the same.

    3. This is the actual real theft of the election that never gets talked about…..I believe in 2012 dems got 1.5 million more votes in the house..and the republicans had a 30 seat majority…..but really thought in 2022 it doesn’t matter…..with 80 yo Pelosi once again unwilling to give up power until she dies of old age regardless of how bad it is for the dems…the republicans will probably win cause of it.

    4. Every time the court tried to outlaw Gerrymandering it usually ended in a 5 to 4 decision. Conservatives know Gerrymandering is what gives them power so they will fight tooth and nail to preserve it.

    1. Don’t get depressed, remember that Trump is still in control of the GOP and their battle has just begun. There will be a lot more anti-trumpers in the republican fold very soon.

  2. Fun Fact: there are provably fair ways to redraw districts. One is similar to how you and your sibling would split cookies as children: one child splits the cookie, the other child gets to pick his or her half. That’s fair. You can iterate on this process to redraw districts: one party draws all the lines, then the other party gets to “freeze” one district and redraw the remaining lines. Alternate until done. https://www.cmu.edu/news/stories/archives/2017/november/i-cut-you-choose-cake-cutting-protocol-inspires-solution-to-gerrymandering.html

    1. Happened down in Venezuela when Chavez got into power. It took his death after 14 years for him to get out of office

  3. I dont remember these videos before the pandemic, but Ive seen every one of them in the past year. I love these videos 🙂 Thanks Chris

    1. With trump currently in control of the GOP you have nothing to worry about…..Trump can only run anything he controls into the ground. So the gop is still doomed

  4. Actually, Wall Street blocking Reddit stock traders should be the most important story because wall street just blocked average investors from making sick money.

    1. @Mighty One To me _competition_ makes America great. Every freaking district in the USA needs to be as competitive as possible. Make the SOBs work for it. For one thing we won’t have 85 year old rep’s, term limits will be imposed by the sheer stress of maintaining your constituency.

  5. I’ve said for years that gerrymandering is part of the reason we have such extreme political congressmen/women. There is no insensitive to meet in the middle. All 50 states should be drawn up by an independent commission.

    1. Look into Ranked Choice Voting, then. Eliminates primaries and rewards candidates for finding common ground with each other = no more radicals in office, just moderates willing to work together.

    2. @Jeff Goddin I have heard of ranked choice voting. I wish it was more popular. I wonder if it would be difficult to get people on board? Especially now with the idea that elections were “stolen” being said in some circles.

    3. @Yomahira Ash Well we can’t do anything about people who won’t listen to reason, but in the past 20 years I’ve been surprised by how much progress has been made with RCV, now being the rule in Maine. The great argument for RCV that both sides have to accept is that it saves the states tons of money by eliminating the need for primaries. Let’s keep educating people, best of luck!

    4. @Jeff Goddin great point! I didn’t realize that rank choice voting eliminated primaries. Hopefully this idea will grow.

    1. ask the lawmakers who were elected because of gerrymandering to do away with gerrymandering… cool! ask the oil companies to tackle pollution regulations too….

  6. The Lord says;
” The former President will never return & the Presidency of the current will be annulled as though it never happened. ”
