The Significance Of Quick Charges In Brooklyn Center | Katy Tur | MSNBC
So for sure..for certain..seeing a prosecutor trying to learn from history is not a bad thing. The officer immediately acting to lesson the impact on the community and police department..admirable. The killing of this young man is a tragedy on too many levels. I hope that his family can heal..RIP
Never. There’s no healing here, ever. It will last for generations. His son will carry this wound his entire life. Healing would require the traumatic experiences to end, to allow time and space, BUT they DON’T EVER END. The community is reeling from the reliving of George Floyd’s murder, and this is yet another layer of trauma. Do you realize how many Black and brown men and boys have lost their lives at the hands of police? NOTHING CHANGES. If the foundation is weak, if the puss of the pimple is not completely removed, the pimple will grow again. “Let me explain a bit of what “defund the police’’ actually means and what Republicans love to get wrong. The defund the police movement is calling for a reallocation of the police budget to spend money for more social workers and other trained professionals in areas like mental health that can help de-escalate tense situations. Republicans love to interpret this movement as having no police force and therefore anarchy and chaos.”
Gun is black. Taser is partially yellow. A 26 year veteran, actively training others, should do way better. Good she has been charged with something.
@Demetria Karnavas oppressed majority lol. This is America you moron. You want to see oppressed? Visit Guatemala or Iraq.
@SouthSide_ Chicago79 Tripped and skinned your knee on the sarcasm, brother. Yeah, you. BTW, don’t need to visit Guatemala. Lived and worked there years ago.
Why won’t people learn that if you flee from being arrested, your chance of Dying goes from 0% of dying to, anything can go bad. More White People are killed by Cops than Black People every year! The Media just don’t tell us.
Aren’t they supposed to keep them on separate hips?
For sure, one has to decipher the difference. One can’t be out here brandishing gun’s, mistaking in place of a taser, it’s sheer negligence!
Cars that are idling under normal conditions do not emit enough carbon monoxide to cause damage to a human in ~10 minutes.
Unless that person’s ability to breathe is already restricted.
Even he did die from carbon monoxide who held his head near the carbon monoxide
So police killed him by putting his head next to car exhaust. How is that a defense?
Exactly!
They are trying to throw reasonable doubt at the prosecutors case. If they claim he was killed by Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck but can make people wonder if he actually died from car exhaust, they can claim it was one of those “accidents” black people keep having whenever they encounter the MPD.
All the more reason to get off of him! This makes the actions of Chauvin and the other cops who held him down even more egregious!
@Deborah Pinkey I agree. This is the DEFENSE! you pinned him down, then IN FRONT OF THE EXHAUST on purpose…I mean come on. This guy is toast! It really does not matter what the defense says. NO SOAP in the shower, dude.
The Prosecution will never prove without a reasonable doubt that Chauvin caused Floyd’s death, Buckle up America when the POS officer walks.
🤔 when you put your knee and put your whole weight on somebody’s neck for over 7 minutes they will die
@Tom Senft if you were African American, you would be bothered by the senseless murder of your brethren no matter where you lived.
@Mister Mister i know more history than any of you morons. again, you put a segregationist in the white house.
There are plenty of things for police to do, follow up on threats, domestic abuse, drug transactions occurring out in the open and they will drive right past that in order to pull over middle aged guys on their to work to write petty tickets.
They put cameras on every street corner watching your vehicle’s every move and will be sure that you do not get away with going 5 – 10 miles over the speed limit. And will track your address, your employment and income, your property and assets to make sure they get money for a minor traffic violation.
Meanwhile, the majority of homicides in the inner city go unsolved.
@Jose Ramirez homicides in trailer parks and white neighborhoods go unsolved as well.
@Adam Parisi you people have a bronze statue of the first grand wizard of the KKK in the middle of a government building in Tennessee.
Officer has 26 years experience and she pulls the wrong weapon ?
These corrupt killer cops are not killing criminals or mass shooters. They are killing our kids. They break they pay period.
There are alot of high people in that city. How many you see dying from asphyxiation
They murder people in their vehicles. Damned if you stay or run..It’s a double bind. Dead over an expired plate. Fthat.
EASY to be wrong when you’re pulling over black people. If that was a white 20 year old, we wouldn’t be here. At all. Case in point: Insurrectionists at the capital.
Police shouldn’t be pulling any sort of gun out unless the suspect poses a clear and immediate serious harm or lethal threat to the cops or bystanders in the first place. Thugs in uniform are far too quick at drawing guns and pulling triggers.
If it was a mistake, then ex-officer Potter should plead guilty and pay the price for such a mistake.
@Alex Garcia Dont know…racist perhaps..felt the need to have a trial and sentencing right then and there
I see all these other silly situations that have escalated to craziness..like the one in Virginia
What motivated that officer?
I just find it incredibly hard to believe with that tenure , experience and my understanding of where the taser is placed versus the service weapon, per policy..how could that “mistake” happen?
Very very suspect
@turnne Dont make no sense, with the trial of Chauvin going on, why would this officer on purpose do the same?
@Alex Garcia I agree…however if someone feels strong enough about something it doesnt have to make sense
I dont think its makes any sense for a 26 year veteran and also from what I hear about their policy on where they place their taser versus their service weapon
I think you are trying to think rational…and this is not rational
@turnne There’s no evidence to say otherwise. She yelled taser, she shot a gun, she immediately exclaimed and admitted she shot her gun by mistake.
It’s not excusable, but you’ll never get a murder charge in this case.
@B W Well ofcourse she said that
What else would she say?
Are you kidding
26 years veteran, points a thing to someone and can’t even tell if it’s a tazer or a gun?
Don’t you look at the gun pointer before you shoot?
@RogerWilco if your an unarmed black man you’re stupid not to run
Some police departments require your gun be holstered on your weak side so you have to intentionally think about reaching for your gun. This is a mistake that does happen .. unfortunately.
@Blue Crow Move to Russia MAGA LOSER.
@Aingell and of course opening the southern border cures covid variants including china 🔴
@RogerWilco Where are you from? Everyone around here is screaming for the system to be fixed… at least the people. Many points you make are evidence you are commenting from afar. Your statements about the officer and the kid running seem extremely detached. We, on the other hand, have argued observations such as yours to the point of exhaustion. We’ve learn that no amount of logical explanation can changed a mind that is already made up.
The taser is also supposed to be carried on the non dominant hand side to interupt dominant hand muscle memory (which is on the gun side)
If they let George Floyd’s killer off with anything less than murder, Minnesota is going to have massive rioting.
@William Marick And away we goooo, America!
stop acting like those blm animals aren’t going to riot no matter what happens. If any of you low IQ liberals payed attention just a little bit, you’d know that Chauvin’s sentence won’t be longer than 225 months.
@SouthSide_ Chicago79 Oh, Hi Donald – you found your way onto YouTube, then. How’s life as a recluse going at Mar a Loophole?
AS THEY SHOULD
Yup. Plus all cities in U.S. Cops will be shooting blacks all the time. Modern day lynching with a gun.
Can’t tell the difference between the Wendy’s nuggets or Mikki Deez 😁
I ain’t buying it. Seem’s if a taser should feel different from a gun. Not only that, after years of knowing where your handgun should be positioned, I find it odd that she wouldn’t know the seriousness) of which side to expose. Also, the situation hadn’t gotten to a severe, heightened state, meaning police officer’s are known to expect some tussle with suspect’s. And a life is taken over a minor warrant.
Shouldn’t this be described as Minneapolis in national and international news coverage?
As it is basically a MPLS suburb, a few miles out, and Brooklyn Centre or worse just Brooklyn makes people think of NYC. I’ve heard several times “did you hear about the shooting in New York?” referencing this incident.
I’m from Minneapolis, they’re not really the same at all.
Maybe people should just read 🙂
When an officer stands trial and his/her defense & attorneys are being paid by the taxpayers, the officer/defendant should be required to testify, even if they “Take the Fifth”, they should have to get in the witness box and say it for the jury.
No one is required to testify in their own defense. It’s literally the 5th Amendment to the US Constitution. That’s why it’s called “take the 5th”.
@Randy Callow I didn’t say they should be forced to incriminate themselves; I said they should have to SAY they are using their right to not testify in addition to the sworn WRITTEN statement. That is NOT ignoring the defendant’s rights.
@llcooljay520 What rights of the defendant would be ignored? If you actually read the ENTIRE comment, you will read that the rights of the defendant are not being ignored.
Ummm I’m paying for illigals entering
Opening the southern border cures covid variants including china 🔴
Oh okay, carbon monoxide really??? Well, kneeling on his neck while two other officers hold him down, by the carbon monoxide exhaust is a contributing cause. Now, charge the two other officers with the same charge at Chauvin since they contributed to holding Floyd down. Unreal!!!!🤦🏼♀️
Adrenaline rush is always a thing that makes things worse which is why de-escalation is so important. A 26 year veteran, I don’t get why this happened with regards to a misdemeanor warrant. Even pulling a taser out would have been too much.
*taser
He tried to drive away. He’s the one who escalated things. Learn the facts.
@Fran Gordon Sure…..but they could’ve just picked him up later….
@SteveWK If someone resists arrest and enters a vehicle to drive away, it can become a public endagerment. Someone can get run over, multiple people could die, etc. So, when that occurs they will use necessary force to end the altercation. No excuse for what happened here, but just explaining why it’s an issue that he resisted.
That’s why it’s super important for us to learn how to handle situations with police. If they’re arresting you, you don’t have a choice. That’s the truth.
No one is putting blame on this kid for what happened. But to say he didn’t have a role in escalating is also not correct.
@Fran Gordon 2 cops there, 2 more RUN up to the car, the Kid panicked, jumped back into the car. Why were they putting handcuffs on him for a misdemeanor offense ? Same as not paying your parking tickets. He was stopped for having air fresheners hanging from the rear view mirror. Not expired tabs. They had his address and he had his mom on the phone. After he was shot, he slumped forward into the steering wheel probably putting the car in gear. He was dead before the car got to the end of the block. So, he died because of $300 in misdemeanor fines ? Cop can’t tell the difference between her orange ,10 ounce taser and her 30 ounce glock ? Really ? 26 year vet trainer ? Also, why did the kids body lay-in the street for several hours ? Think people are mad ?
Background and social media contents should be checked before hired as police officers like lots of big companies already use.
Exactly, and I want to know why police are never drug tested when they are in a police shooting??any other job you get hurt on it the first thing they gone get is drugged tested!
It would be interesting to know the extent of the nickel and dime-ing that seems to be one of the main priorities of police that work in certain neighborhoods and how this constant removal of resources affects the lives of people who are already struggling.
That’s the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, the men are good looking and the children are above average.
Carbon monoxide? This just be the” My Pillow” guy of the medical field. The defense is grasping at straws at this point.
Well it’s a good thing she knew the difference between her gun and her blow dryer… otherwise her bathroom would be a mess.
