It is still good exposure. Your foot is getting too big for your britches. Without events, how will the athletes make a living?
@stop motion and gaming There is NIL. I don’t know if this system is in Jamaica as yet but, yes, college athletes do make money.
@Steve Patrick But he’s referring to the high school kids. And he is right. It in unnecessary and they do not benefit much. Champs is already getting them the exposure and really and truly it isn’t hard to get exposure as a sprinter. Just run a fast time. In any official event.
@Neiko McCalla You may have a point. But, track and field is already behind as a sport. If we cut all these events in the name of irrelevance, what will we enjoy? I enjoy the Penn Relays, personally. We cannot be selfish. We have to think about track and field as a whole and support the events when we can. Football and Basketball are two of the leading sports for a reason.

Penn Relays is not a paying event. The Maverick is correct in his assessment especially the monetary benefit Jamaica should get. If you remove Jamaican athletes and fans Franklin Field would be empty. It is a major money maker for the University of Pennsylvania. Carifta and Penn relay is no longer necessary, like Maverick says, it’s just a vacation thing.
Just bragging rights, but is it worth it?

I dont understand why some of you old grey back people want to stop the kids from running at track meets abroad. The student athletes want to run so let them run. Not everyone who runs at Penn and Carifta will be a senior world beater. Life experiences, travel is a part of education.
Let them experience a track meet abroad. This is coming from someone who watched the 1980 Olympics live on TV as a child.

Total waste of money by Jam Schools. Money which could be used for other needy things. If Penns don’t pay for jam schools to attend. Don’t attend. Nuff money in their pockets and nuff expense on part of local Schools and their alumnae. Boycott it or end participation.
