Tampa police chief during traffic stop: ‘I’m hoping that you’ll just let us go’ | USA TODAY #Shorts

The police chief of Tampa, Florida, has resigned following an incident last month in which she flashed her badge to get favorable treatment during a traffic stop while riding in a golf cart.

“It is unacceptable for any public employee, and especially the city's top law enforcement leader, to ask for special treatment because of their position,” Castor said in a statement. Chief Mary O’Connor stepped down upon the mayor’s request following an internal review, according to Castor.

The incident took place on the evening of Nov. 12, when O’Connor and her spouse were riding in a golf cart on streets of Oldsmar, Florida, near Tampa. A Pinellas County Sheriff deputy pulled the couple over because the golf cart did not have a license plate. The deputy’s body camera captured footage of the interaction, which was posted by the Tampa Police Department.

O’Connor, sitting in the passenger seat, asks the deputy “Are you recording,” and then tells him “I’m the police chief in Tampa … I’m hoping that you’ll just let us go tonight,” as she shows him her badge. “You looked familiar,” the deputy responds, before letting the couple go.

    1. If your wife had told the officer, “If you ever need ANYTHING call me. Serious.” The officer may have accepted and not given her a ticket but met her at a hotel later. 😂 That police chief sounded like a HOOKER! Now we know how she became the chief of police.

    2. One time,I was driving behind a long line of cars, they were driving like 35 mph, on a 55 highway I pass all like 10 cars this is like 8:30 pm. And the reason of all the cars , was a highway patrol in front. When I get to him, I say to myself, damm damm, he pull me over, and he said?why are you driving so fast. And passing on a curve. He said, how many beers do you drink? I said like 6 but real early, and You got like 10 cars at 20 to 35 miles, for the last 3 miles. He said really. I said yes sir. Then after checking my driving license, he said , ok just go. I said thank you. This is about 3 miles from Brawley, I was really happy. And I think. Well this deserves a beer, so I went to this little bar on main St. I park my truck, and went in and drink one Beer. When I left I get on the left lane to turn to my house that is about 12 miles, before I turn it was the same highway patrol , and again he pull me over and he said , what are you doing. And I said, well just because you don’t give me a ticket, I went to celebrate, and drink one beer. He looked at me, and said were you live, I said next town. He Said I’m going to let you go, but if I see your truck again tonight, you’re going to be in trouble. He follow me for 12 miles and when I turn to my street. He keeps going straight. By the way. He was a white officer and his partner was Latino. So thanks to this officers. And God Bless and Protect them.

    1. I’m an African-American woman, and I’ve received traffic warnings from police officers. HOWEVER, I’ve never told them, “If you ever need ANYTHING call me. Serious.” She sounded like a HOOKER. She should be fired, because she ranks higher than him. It sounded like a bribe.

  1. this is what power and corruption does to people if youre not corrupt you get a desk job point blank.. they have this “im above the law im asumming youre going to let me go… same team…” mentality its really disturbing to see.

    1. She should be fired, because her rank is higher than than the police officer who stopped them, and she used her rank to not be ticketed.

    2. It’s actually pretty common for cops and family to be let off of minor traffic violations. It’s a brotherhood. In New Jersey where I live if you are a close friend or family of an officer you get a PBA card. Pretty much a plastic card that says you support the police union. They’ll let you off if you have one most of the time. We’ve gotten out of many tickets with it.

  2. WHAT THE HECK WAS ALL THAT ABOUT??? I’ll scratch your back you scratch mine??
Hear no evil… speak no evil…
Nothing to see here folks ,
    Move along , move along…

  3. Who cares! They’re not being evil. You get “perks” like this…but not for anything serious. So many ppl get a “warning” for minor stuff.

  4. Oh special treatment and special favors for the modern day stasi

They’ve no shame even on video because it’s rare anything comes of their corruption

  5. I don’t really have a problem with this. It’s to be expected.

I’m always respectful to cops. When I get pulled over, I roll down my windows, turn on my interior light, put my hands out the window, and I don’t admit to anything or incriminate myself. I never get any tickets.

If a cop ask if you’re speeding and you say “yes” you’ve just admitted to breaking the law. You’ll probably get a ticket if you admit to doing a crime. Some people don’t realize that… or they resist and reach for things and get shot. Not a good idea.

  6. “If you ever need ANYTHING call me. Serious.” She sounded like a HOOKER! Now we know how she became the chief of police. 🇺🇸
