The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has denied tenure to the ‘1619 Project’ creator, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist, Nikole Hannah-Jones. Many critics see this as part of a movement to whitewash America’s racist history. Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates authors this week's Cross Connection essay, as a guest lecture on the ‘1619 Project’ backlash and White America's obsession with societal myth-making.» Subscribe to MSNBC:

Ta-Nehisi Coates Speaks Out on UNC Denying Tenure On ‘1619 Project’
Thank you for this video, Ms Cross. Stay healthy everyone!
This is a job for the Red Skull!
Anyone who believes they personally could never be enslaved: THINK AGAIN!
Aren’t we all slaves to $?
Yes, learn what the private central banks have in store for every person on earth.
@Lily Jade – you are demonstrating a very seriously inadequate level of the reality. Not being able to go to the prom is not slavery.
Really appreciate the comments from Ta-Nehisi Coates. Always insightful and gets to heart of matters.
Except this fact: the Western world didn’t invent slavery. Slavery was invented by every society and ethnic group at every stage of history, and prior. Sadly, the Western world was not exceptional in this. What *was* exception: the Western world ended slavery.
We should pursue truth despite politics and hidden agendas. When we ascertain the truth we need to learn from it and strive to do better.
And I think most people will agree to that. But conservatives don’t want to hear anyone’s side of the story. You have to listen to all sorts of “we’ve invented the wheel” as an excuse for not allowing others to speak about issues in their own communities which the government ignores.
@Taiokawu both of y’all are correct.
if you want truth you won’t get it from propagandists that plat fast and loose with facts like Nikole Hannah-Jones
Education has to be not only based on truth, but also must be without retribution. Only then, can we all contribute with different points of view.
@Scott Harrison and what else?
@Insignificant360 – OMG! The 1619 Project specifically says that the United States was formed to preserve slavery!! That’s not factual! The entire document is based on that being fact. It’s not even close to being factual.
YOU CAN’T REWRITE HISTORY TO FIT YOUR NARRATIVE!!
Face it. The 1619 Project is a lie. Find something else to be bigoted about.
If you actually said that in a school like Evergreen, you’d be labeled a Nazi and a white supremacist.
@Scott Harrison no it’s not. You ought to try watching or reading it. You won’t though. You prefer to be in the dark
@H Moore – Don’t take my word for it, take the word of most of the History community. The 1619 Project is an attempt to rewrite history. It’s a farse.
The more people trip about this subject makes millions of black people angry and also makes them wonder why the upset is going so hard to push this subject deep down under. Let the truth speak Amerikkk!
Come on, man. The “1619 Project” ludicrously states that the Jamestown colony was the “beginning” of the U.S.A. First of all, the Jamestown colony didn’t even survive. And if this piece of information isn’t enough to disprove the 1619 project, then, secondly, it wasn’t even the first English American colony, that honour goes to one set up in North Carolina. No, the true beginning of the U.S.A was the mass arrival of the Puritan exiles, from England, in the 1630’s.
It doesn’t make this black Man angry, I say get rid of all this woke bs and let’s focus on living life and making money.
Absurdly
The Black student athletes have enabled UNC to accumulate millions maybe billions of dollars and thus make UNC one of the elite universities in this country.
Exactly! All the black athletes who have helped generate all that money for the University’s coffers need to take a long hard look at this situation and reevaluate their choices. Perhaps they would be better served helping a college who will appreciate and value their contributions to society as a distinguished alumni.
@blackhercules thier job is to shut up and play.
@fred sims they don’t get paid to play in college so it’s not a job. The point was they can take their talents elsewhere. There are a lot of HBCU’s that could benefit from an influx of National television money.
@fred sims u cant play one sport
Facts
Watching someone read 💤💤💤
Anti- intellectualism at its finest.
@H Moore Well now I feel bad about myself 😓
@Pac4Prez clown.
@H Moore EAD Miss Moore
You must be jealous bec you can’t read and your comprehension is lacking too. Ask a 3rd grader to explain it to you.
For Conservatives, truth, facts and thinking are divisive.
Yep, they think everything is a black versus white issue.
The 1619 Project is based on truth and facts? Try again.
Long past time for truth and reconciliation in America.
Absolutely shameful! She deserves better!
They didn’t want a woke lunatic on staff for life.
I like Ta-Nehisi Coates. I dislike typos.
That’s the hole point to give someone tenure. To protect them from the conservatives… They just wanted to silence her because they are the conservatives they’re talking about.
Considering that academia is dominated by leftist activists, it’s obviously that tenure would be more useful for conservative professors.
It is what it is 🤔
God I hope MSNBC KEEPS Tiffany She’s GREAT!
Lol…racists being put in check
sooooo true,,,,,soooo true…..we nedd to embrace the TRUTH
