Seems very strange to rule that lawsuits filed when Chump was in office but now is out of office are ‘moot” and thus dismissed now. And even stranger that the SCOTUS would wipe out any lower court ruling on the lawsuits. Let’s see what the numerous legal scholars have to say about this. Seems like the SCOTUS just did not want to deal with politically charged matters in today’s environment and found a suspect way to exit. But as a lawyer friend pointed out to me … the law is what the judge says it is … and that certainly seems to be true now.

The emoluments clause is meant to keep powerful people from doing corrupt things while in office. But because they are powerful people in office, they don’t face any consequences. Does anyone else see the problem with this?

All courts have procedural law that must be adhered to when making a claim to them. Since the Mr. Trump is now a “Mr.” and not the president, whether he personally benefitted by clowns staying at his hotel is no longer a debatable issue. It is a “moot point.” The Court behaved properly in dismissing the case and wiping all lower rulings off the books. Courts are not “cure alls” for society’s various ills. The problem we are going through right now is mainly a political problem, and it is going to be solved among us, The People. Either we are going to go through a difficult birth and eventually come to a new beginning (and it won’t be the first time, either😉), or the country is going to be torn asunder and something or thing[s] new is/are going to take its place. But either way, the Supreme Court is hardly even going to be a footnote in all of this. Whatever happens is going to happen among us, The People, not in the Supreme Court.
