Sobeys joins the movement banning plastic bags by 2020

Canadian grocery chain Sobeys has announced plans to phase out all plastic bags in their 1500 stores by year 2020. Vanessa Lee reports.

  1. Its a way to get people to buy more kitchen catchers (garbage bags for the kitchen) because everyone I know uses plastic bags from various purchased items including groceries

  2. What does this mean for the Bagged Milk industry? I thought Canadians couldn’t live without Bagged Milk?

  3. Years go there were paper bags and they were mostly adequate. Plastic bags were definitely not game changers.

  4. So, are they also going to ban SINGLE USE Glad trash bags? Ziploc bags? The only reason we’re picking on grocery bags, are because they are visible in the landfill. I don’t know about everyone, but the plastic grocery bags do double & triple use for me. (I even have a pattern for knitting the bags into… bags!)
