This seems like a skills mismatch. Just last week, TVJ reported that hotel owners in Negril are having trouble finding skilled tradesmen.
Them wa gi ppl little n nothing
@k-mar muzik You’re probably right. One of the hotel owners in that video suggested importing workers from Mexico or the Dominican Republic. We need to prevent the government from allowing employers to bring in workers from other countries unless we have full employment here (unemployment rate below 3 or 4 percent). I have no problem with temporary guest workers coming here temporarily but we have to take care of our own people (especially our young men and women) first!
Once there is a Russia address in the applications or gully banks, darling st , 12 street and grange hill, petersfield, whithorn, darliston. It hard for the to get a job. I had to move from darliston to mobay to get a job. I send out numerous applications and couldn’t get any. Then ma aunt sit tell me that am not going to get any jobs in Westmoreland with that address so should come stay with her and that how my life started to change. So tell me something what about the people who don’t anyone to help or any where to move to for a change in life and to give them different mindset. Come on don’t be bias. And it the same thing in montego bay once using a ghetto address dog name u supper
Hotel needs skilled persons to slave out because you work but what are you taking home, how is that gonna feed families and make lives better?
@Jamjam Godbless In USA, economists see an unemployment rate of 4-5% as full employment. At that level, anyone can get a job if they want one. I don’t know what the equivalent rate is in Jamaica but it’s probably close to the same level. If we can get to full employment, stay there for a long time and prevent employers from importing cheap labor from other countries, they will either have to increase pay levels, pay more to train staff or do more of the work themselves. In theory, at full employment, people start job hopping for better pay and working conditions so, over time, average earnings of employees goes up. Of course, few Jamaicans understand that because 7.1% is the lowest unemployment rate we’ve ever known in over 50 years and, even at that rate, there’s still a lot of slackness in the labor market. It’s vexing that, since Independence, we have never had an administration that has made employment and skills training for our young a top priority.
WHY TVJ NEVER SHUT THEM MOUTH,NO WONDER WHY CRIME CANT END ,WE GIVE THE YUTES EXCUSE TO TURN TO CRIME.
But its reality ppl have nothing to live for anymore
Not excuses, it’s just the truth… you wouldn’t understand, who feels it knows…
This is what we’ve been talking about there is no opportunity in the country for the young men and women so Mr. Prime Minister what are you going to do about it it is time better Jamaica?
Youths don’t want to work, Jamaicans glorify badness so everyone want to be bad man and bad woman. Give these youths a million USD right now and see what they do with it. Government need to do better but parents are the real culprits. Jamaican men are weak in values and principles and they are the ones capable of getting the youths on the right path. Farming might not be the most valuable right now but it good security for any family. And Jamaica even though not as fertile as it once was, it’s still great for organic farming.
Did you do any research to support your ridiculous claims. First of all to say youths don’t want to work is far from reality so get real. Yes a minority few doesn’t want to work but they don’t represent the vast majority that can’t find employment even though they’ve been trained.
Thinking like yours is why Jamaica is in such a turmoil because you use the minority to judge the majority. That’s not how intelligent people think.
Try to be part of the solution instead of criticism let’s hear some objective ideas that can turn this nation around.
@B BLESSED Well said!!! 👏
@Juda Mom Thanks
A voice of reason in the sea of excuses. No one wants to get their hands dirty by farming anymore. They want to wear the latest style etc. and the quickest or easiest way to do this is by scamming or robbing people.
YOU MUST NEVER MURDER ANYONE.
Easier for you to say
@Jamjam Godbless what’s so hard about not murdering people? Smh
“YOU MUST NOT MURDER ANYONE.
So she only sent out 8 applications and expects to find success? Smh, even in the US you will have send out over 50 to 100 resumes to land 20 calls and then 10 interviews and possibly 2 offers. People don’t realize thats it a numbers game.
Yes but where are the opportunities. You just have to realise and admit the game is rigged. Thousands of ppl need jobs while there’s no space. Also keep in mind the wages earned is not worth it.
You sound so illogical and proud as if you’re actually saying something worthwhile. No citizen if any country should have to send out 100’s or 20+ resumes just to get a call for an interview.
@Renardo Palmer … So in a society where so many are competing for jobs, you expect to send out one or two résumés and think that that will score you an interview or callback? Maybe that’s how it would work in a fairytale, but in real life, it doesn’t!!
@CBJohn well you’re right and I never said anything about sending out 1 or 2 resumes to get a job so I’m not sure what comment your replying to. You come off as argumentative I said no one should be sending 20+ resumes just to get an 1 interview much less 100+ to not get a job.
@Renardo Palmer … So if you think no one should have to send out that many resumes, then send as few as you want; see where that gets you…🙄. And if one reply to a comment is seen as ‘argumentative’, then I don’t know what to tell you.😏
• NO MORE STEALING
• NO MORE KILLINGS
• NO MORE MURDERING
• NO MORE SHOOTINGS
• NO MORE ROBBERIES
Wages in Jamaica is too low ..people cannot live off of 50us per week ..they have to pay rent .utility bills. Food..children have to go to school ..so that’s the root of the evil in Jamaica..and the government acting like they don’t know what causing the crime ..even people who are working are stealing to help themselves
Wat u mean by 50 us per week u mean 67 euros each Fort night. Total disgrace and no word in the dictionary to describe this crab in modern jamaica.
Scarcity is a real tangible thing. Jamaica has a surplus of available workers vs jobs available. Try living the life of a person below the poverty line. More than half of Jamaica is poor Without resources and the ability to escape the system. Scamming is the quickest way with the highest risks. What are the other alternatives? Agriculture? U need land and capital. Tourism? That industry is slow right. now. Gov? Barely hire due to the low turnover. At the end of the day we will have ppl who will be left out of the economy. Jamaica make 14billion per year to run the country for 3million ppl plus pay back loans. We struggle everyday to pay our bills and provide a future for our kids imaging having help a cousin on top of that. Its the same way for the gov as a whole
Our Jamaican government has failed significantly in socially and financially building the growth of our youths. Empty promises filled with no action.
This unemployment, issue is everywhere in the Jamaica society , Not only in Westmoreland . Without jobs, how the citizens of this country, will survive , especially the younger generation ?
And people continue fi vote fi both party Dem voting fi poverty like dem like it
@Leslie Williams you have to see this as a case by case because there are youths who don’t want to work but love easy money it’s typical in Jamaica and my son is a prime example, I have assisted him to go and learn a skill then he get the skill works in the hotel industry for few months but because of his attitude towards going to work late they no longer need is service he later lied to me that he no longer want to work in the hotel and he’s tired of the hotel food, can you imagine then he hang around with looser on street corner always want me to support his lifestyle but I say no I won’t do that
The business of gun smuggling and importation of guns into Jamaica is big business that has a lot of high society individuals involved. These guns are imported, sold and or rented to gangs and criminals all over Jamaica which increases the murders, shootings, gang violence, extortions, killings and so many other criminal acts. The police needs to continue their search and recovering of as much guns, ammunitions and criminals as possible as too these wicked criminals are too heavily armed presently. We are all still waiting on Dr Horace Chang to come with his legislative updates and these updates for the 70s laws against all gun crime and system to import guns and ammunition into Jamaica. Crime is destroying the fabric of our culture and society and we need a real change as no one respect the out dated laws and more youths are gravitating to gangs and criminality. Make Jamaica safe again so Jamaicans can be proud again.
That is no excuse. If you’re raised right, you will never turn to crime no matter how desperate you are financially.
Yes that’s if you’re raised right ✅ Most of us youths grew up with 1 parent or no parent, then we often quit school because of financial crisis…Hungry gives gasinteritis
Sir but most Jamaican no raise right. No fathers, mom working, kids raising kids. Soooooo🤷♀️
The governments cause a lot of this Jamaicans people need to start hold them accountable
Both parties need to WAKE UP!! TOURISM and call centers (might I add don’t pay enough) are not the main source of employment for Jamaicans there needs to be other avenues that pay decent wages for people to survive in Jamaica, especially because of the prices on housing.
Which is true. This is what the govt need to tey and address instead of putting the money in their pockets. They’re locking up these people for the same thing they are doing.
The country lacks good leaders to fix the system.
As the old saying goes “Poverty Breeds Crime”!!
Disappointed In This Country We Call “Jamaica 🇯🇲 Land We Love”.
Never think JLP would have destroyed the country like this
