Earlier Cloud Park coal company did file chapter 11 , 3rd largest coal company in USA , produced 7,4 % of all coal used in USA 2017 , it had 1300 workers .
From last October US has now lost 4 big coal companies … coal produced 48% of US electricity in 2008 , its soon under 24% , thats half of market gone in 10 years .
Best part , Moscow Mitch is blocking the Coal Miners healthcare bill , that would pay coal miners healthcare if the companies they work for go belly up .

I feel badly for the coal miners losing their livelihoods. The writing on the wall that this was unquestionably going to happen has been clear for decades. A real leader would have the foresight to offer them tax relief and financial support for vocational training so their talents could serve their communities, because that’s what real leaders do. These are seriously dark times in America, with the most venal and disingenuous ensuring failure for the future of their own children. Incredibly sad.
Maybe Trump can run this time promising out of work coal miner jobs at Blockbusters.

@Scion of Madness Actually there has been less damage using uranium than there has been in coal use, except for the few examples of poorly built reactors.
Molten Salt Reactors are the safest reactors ever designed and will have to be used as a green alternative for baseline electricity.
Smaller safer and produce less waste than reactors in use today which are all over 50 years old and should be decommissioned because they are ticking time bombs.

Let’s give coal miners and the laborers some credit, they do know coal is not a sustainable resource. I’m sure most are well aware of the reasons behind this and of course they want jobs to replace what they lost. The problem with this is that these owners know they’ve been receiving tax cuts, and now even deregulation isn’t going to help workers. The spewing out of lies only to get him into office worked, he never bothered to give a solution if the mines don’t stay open. You see when your a politician you always look for a solution in case something does happen and that your plans don’t work. That solution is to provide in the short term relief for the workers in a form of food stamps and unemployment benefits and healthcare. Then provide a path for new forms of job opportunities such as a more sustainable sources of energy maybe tap into methane deposits within the fossil fuel mines etc. Look for more cleaner energy alternatives to replace those lost jobs, manufacturing of goods which should of been top priority to entice businesses to set up shop from US companies. You see it’s plain and simple you replace jobs that are lost due to economic change and global demands. Apple looks for manufacturing in other countries why not pressure Apple to build in the US their products, give them some kind of deal to entice them to return their factories to the US.

There is far more information missing from you’re post but I do agree manufacturing should be in this region of the globe when it comes to domestically originated vehicles. Lets not forget the reason why vehicles are assembled by foreign automakers in this country and in Canada. The vast majority of people driving vehicles are North Americans, and the countries that import know this. In order to meet demand they build factories here in order to compete and allow to circumvent tariffs and duties. So here’s the dilemma people don’t understand when they say keep foreign cars away from the country etc. First they provide Americans a choice, then they offer jobs for Americans to be able to buy those vehicles, homes and food on the table, third they boost the local economy. The economics behind manufacturing and job creation is not what Politicians emphasize the most, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren have highlighted most of these. You have to understand how the business model works and how local economy and overall trade before spewing out garbage such as Trump, then scaring businesses away from coming in setting up shop, and some leaving. You can’t have it one way you need to compromise something to get something, and mostly you get more in return than what you really see.

The slow decline of coal started back in the 80s, and it wasn’t because of environmentalists.
Along with making coal great again, Trump wants to bring back coal powered locomotives, and coal powered steam ships for our navy.
What Trump is too ignorant to realize, is that the people who worked in those coal mines generations ago, did so so that their kids and grandkids wouldn’t have to. And today, their kids and grandkids have no interest in going down into a coal mine. It’s 2019, not 1919. I guess tomorrow we can expect Trump to announce his plan to make whaling oil great again.
The sad part is they want to go back in. They want the coal mining jobs back, because it’s all they know. I can empathize with that. I don’t blame them for giving it one more try. Empty stomachs have way of changing your thinking.
You’re so right David, it is a generation gap that wasn’t suppose to continue and it was because of the hazzards of coal mining. THere is a danger to coal that most don’t understand when you do mine. Sure there are safety measures in place and breathing devices, but I’m sure some do die of lung cancers and other form of health issues.
