It was easy for those Republican Senators to side with the House on this, since it’s not something close and personal to Trump. Plus, he really doesn’t want to start something with Iran, like he did recently, and then have to worry about losing money, in the event prospective guests decide stay away from his hotels/resorts out concern for their safety in the event of an attack.
After doing a cover up at his impeachment trial, these senators are looking for a way to say, ‘See, I’m able to stand up to him.’ You will notice, though, that they find it easier to go against him on foreign policy, something that he and his base know little about.
In fact, many in his base want the U.S to let other countries fight their own wars. I would think that these eight Senators gave him a heads up.
The Republican Senators will never go against Trump when it comes to holding him accountable for his crimes, unethical behavior, conflicts of interest, for inviting foreign interference in the U.S. elections for his benefit, etc.
Foreign policy, unless it’s Russia, is not personal to him. Also, Venezuela: He may be hoping to oust Venezuela President Maduro in time for the 2020 election, strictly for the expat votes. Again, it has be personal where it benefits him financially, in maintaining power (so he doesn’t have to face SDNY), or it fulfills his need for vengeance.

BTW, the Dossier has since been overwhelmingly confirmed true, excepting one very slight typo on a name, and evidence presently unconfirned yet also not disproven. It just kept coming up aces, in terms of accuracy.
Also, the Dossier was originally paid for *by the GOP.* Clinton just bought it up when Trump got the nomination.
