Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said Sunday that he will not vote for S.1, known as the For The People Act, the massive elections and ethics reform package Democrats have proposed.

He’s not a Democrat he’s a Republican
I’ve said that for years. He’s a straight up conservative Democrat. You ever notice there are no liberal Republicans. Joe Manchin is a conservative clown that just need to be voted out. He might as well just join the Republican party.
He’s a nazi
Hahahahahah Your very own Liz Cheney & Mitt 🤣
Probably planted in as a Democrat to help Trump’s Rethuglicans block everything.
Manchin votes with his party most of the time. There is no Republican, even the most centrist, with as liberal a voting history as his. When you call him a Republican, you just display how ignorant you are.
Dude is confused for he thinks his voters sent him to washington to fix the GOP and not the people he represents
Who were the ones making changes to the election rules? Oh it was the GOP. Was it bi-partisan? Nope.
@Emily Xiong The democrats in some states made changes right before the 2020 election in regards to the handling of ballots, extensions for ballots, etc. That was unconstitutional and republicans are adjusting accordingly.
The Best Weapon the Republicans Have , What a Sad Sack of Dog POOOO
@Emily Xiong You’re conflating national and state laws. And, if you really want those new restrictive laws undone, HR4 will address the matter. There is no need for HR1, with all its nonrelated pork and far left agenda.
@Ryan Ryan is correct when you are from a purple to red state such as West Virginia if Manchan voted liberal his future would be the same as Heidi heitkamp from North Dakota, Claire mccaskill from Missouri, and Mary landre from Louisiana, all former democratic senators from red states that voted too liberal they all LOST ! Manchan is pragmatic. Democrats would you rather lose control of the Senate !
Good to know where this DINO really stands – on the side of the fascists. Hopefully only for egoistical reasons and not ideological ones.
@Bill Casey Democrat voters are already leaving California and New York in droves, they’re trying to escape Democrat tyranny by moving to Florida and Texas only to vote for the same thing that they’re to escape from to begin with, illegal immigrants surprisingly do the same thing. Once the red states become overflooded, which is already close to taking place, there will be no where else to run to. Americans will start to flee their own country for another.
Calling those we disagree with childish names is fracturing the country. We used to be able to debate policy differences, without resorting to personal insults. The minute you start calling your opponent “fascist”, you have admitted that you have to logical argument for the policies you endorse.
@Jason
Once upon a time there was opposition. They were all Evil. The End.
Yeah, I’m not buying into that. Nor could you sell that idea to anyone.
@Bill Casey The Democrat party was founded and rooted in evil….
@Jason
The more crud like this you write, the more we realize you have nothing to say.
You are dared to, right now, give back, and refuse in the future, all things given to you by democrats. This includes social security, and a laundry list of other benefits. Give them all back this minute, lest you be exposed as a hypocrite.
You won’t. But, I’m sure you can get qanon or the proud boys to approve your words. It won’t be me.
This man is a Republican caucusing with the Dems. He has his head stuck up his backside if he thinks that the Republicans have any intention of working with the Dems.
@Juniper x are you insulting WV Democrats by assuming stereotypes?! Racist
Even after slow joe tried to bribe Manchin with a $165,000/year job for his wife, he remains true to his pledge.
I am now beginning to believe that Manchin is one of the last demonRAT patriots.
@wolfman02
2017
Charles Schumer, began: “We are writing to urge you to support our efforts to preserve existing rules, practices, and traditions as they pertain to the right of members to engage in extended debate on legislation before the United States Senate.”
The senators continued: “We are united in our determination to preserve the ability of members to engage in extended debate when bills are sent to the floor.” The Senate plays a “unique role” in the legislative process, the senators said, and that role should continue unchanged. “Therefore, we are asking you to join us in opposing any effort to curtail the existing rights and prerogatives of senators to engage in full, robust, and extended debate as we consider legislation before this body in the future,” the letter concluded.
Thirty-three Democrats signed the letter — Senators Chris Coons, Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, Patrick Leahy, Angus King, Mark Warner, Michael Bennet, Amy Klobuchar, Bob Casey, Martin Heinrich, Jeanne Shaheen, Sherrod Brown, Dianne Feinstein, Kirsten Gillibrand, Brian Schatz, Heidi Heitkamp, Cory Booker, Maria Cantwell, Mazie Hirono, Joe Donnelly, Jon Tester, Thomas Carper, Kamala Harris, Maggie Hassan, Bill Nelson, Tammy Duckworth, Tim Kaine, Jack Reed, Ed Markey, Debbie Stabenow, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Bob Menendez. Some are now gone, but most remain in the Senate today.
One of the filibuster supporters was then-Senator Kamala Harris, now Vice President of the United States.

“Some progressives, probably because they assume Democrats are going to control the Senate after the election, are arguing that the filibuster should be abolished.
In the words of John Steinbeck, “I guess a man is the only kind of varmint sets his own trap, baits it, and then steps in it.” The temptation to end filibusters during consideration of legislation would create such a trap.
It would exacerbate polarization by embracing one-party rule. It would strip the Congress of the only procedural path to forcing negotiation and compromise. And it would be certain to backfire.”
-Carl Levin, a Democrat, served as a U.S. senator from Michigan from 1979 to 2015

“The American people sent us here to be their voice. They understand that those voices can at times become argumentative but they also hope that we can disagree without being disagreeable, and at the end of the day they expect both parties to work together to get the people’s business done. What they don’t expect is for one party, Be it republican or democrat to change the rules in the middle of the game So that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.
The American people want less partisanship in this town but everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to Democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse.”
-Barack Obama, defending the filibuster in 2005
The filibuster is another check against radical change and a majority tyrannizing a minority. It’s there for good reasons. our government was designed so that change would come slowly and with some difficulty and effort. Of course the tyrannical authoritarians want to scrap all checks and balances and impediments that stand between them and (the abuse of) total power.
Without the 60/40 vote needed to end the debate, all a party would ever need is a simple majority (51-49).
We were never designed to be a pure democracy in which a simple majority rules. ‘Majority rules’ is two wolves and one sheep voting on what is to be for dinner.
Slow change. Requires discussion and careful thought, reasoned debate. The filibuster ensures that every voice and opinion has had the time to be heard and discussed and that a reasonable majority of our elected legislators have been convinced on a given matter.
Checks and balances against passion’s caprice and the tyranny of a majority.
Lose this and reason gives way to passion. Be very VERY careful when tinkering with your democracy.
“When passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.”
-Ben Franklin
@T Chaw A progressive challenged him in his last primary. She got slaughtered. If he doesn’t win that seat, no democrat can. He didn’t win by much in 2018, he’s likely not going to win in 2024 so I’d let it go. If he wins then at least he is a vote for some things. A republican will not vote with democrats anywhere near as much.
There are other democrats that are blocking stuff too, it’s just Manchin and Sinema are vocal about it so they take the flak. Remember the minimum wage vote? There were 10 democrats against that when Bernie voted to add it back into the stim bill.
Expand the majority so Manchin is no longer vital. That’s the democrats problem, they keep receding in power in the senate and then give up. Some are due to crap campaigning and crap candidates. If this keeps up, in our lifetimes, dems won’t even have 40 senate seats to fillibuster.
Demons used the filibuster 327 times to scuttle Republican and Bipartisan bills including Sen Tim Scott’s Police reform legislation. Total hypocrisy but no surprise!
Manchin votes with Republicans more often then not, he needs to re-evaluate his political affiliation.
@filip chung when did I say that?
Reevaluate nothing! People of West Virginia needs to primary him ASAP. He has proven himself to be a republican.
@Seeking The truth Yes. Deep blue…West Virginia.
Leftists really only have two choices here. Get over it or don’t.
He represents a Republican state. And HR1 is a terrible bill.
He’s just like Romney! It’s awesome!
Manchin can either choose the future of American democracy or clinging to a Jim Crow relic that existed to prevent certain people from having unalienable rights. Which side are you rooting for, Joe?
@Alex Hamilton well that was stupid, but I’ll bite. Anyone with basic elementary level knowledge of history knows the parties essentially swapped platforms in the 1960s. Which party today has openly been endorsed by KKK leaders, called Neo-Nazis “very fine people”, and had white nationalists commit a violent insurrection against the government to keep them in power? We’ll wait…
@Alex Hamilton Another poorly educated not to bright social media commentator.
JOE IS PUTINS BOY
@Alex Hamilton THE ONES GOP SUPPORT NOW . A HALF TRUTH IS AN OUT RIGHT LIE ALEX JONES
@Luke Oliver – Similar to the swapping happening right now. Jim Crow laws are being redefined as Joe Crow laws.
He is west Virginia version of a democrat. He is going to do this the entire time. He stated because no republicans are going to sign it he wont. Yet will say nothing when republican do it. Not only that he states that protecting the right to vote should not be partisan but we can see republicans restricting that right… what does he expect going to happen republican are going to stop… he is messed up.
Yes he will say something lights camera action take 1 im so disappointed with my republican friends 💰💰💰💰this is an attack against democracy bah blah blah💰💰💰the senate needs to work together in a pro republican way mmm excuse me bipartisan way🙄💰💰💰
Manchin is a dixecrat… w virginia is klan infested and anti-Black as it gets so of course they do NOT want Black voter rights…. wtf YEAR is this??
Manchin is no Democrat and needs to be voted out of politics even if it takes putting a republican in his job protesters should be at his doorsteps 24/7 !!!
Which should be in ’24. Doubt he will win. He only won by like 3.3% in ’18
@Nicholas A. could you imagine if Manchin was a republican in Trumps Regime and was blocking Donald’s plan, he would have a new nickname Manchin the Maggot or something
@William Royer – Are you inciting an insurrection by asking protesters to show up at his doorstep??? Watch it.. the FBI and DOJ are watching you.
At least Republicans are honest about obstruction.
Joe Manchin believes in filibuster and non representative democracy….
Mitch McConnell would use or lose the filibuster to fit the Republican needs in a heartbeat.
They call him No Go Joe. Joe Manchin is officially a republican
Non representative democracy? He is a senator for Republicans. He is representing his State. And HR1 is a horrible bill that is unconstitutional.
He needs out to this chair he is Republicans and uses democratic
He was a republican mole all this time. A freaking double agent.
There is no Bipartisanship to be had on voting when one party is only interested in minimizing it. There is no filibuster or Senate to protect if voting rights are not protected.
Requiring an id to vote isn’t restricting
So should we now forget that Moscow Mitch clearly stated he would oppose every bill Biden proposes and hope that he was lying when he said that?
MVVpro
The Republicans should oppose every bill Biden proposes , what is your point?
The democrats spent 4 years opposing everything Trump did. You must be new to politics
He’s clearly been compromised…
@frisky kitty so much it’s embarrassing. If these politicians listened to themselves and actually heard all their contradictory statements they would understand why most citizens have very little faith. The majority of us are not stupid
And the left isnt..
@Darrius Beal if Senator Manchin is a Democrat then that answers your question😂
He’s a reptilican in disguise.
The call him 00 Joe. Dude has been a double agent all this time
again he has a secrets which republican’s have on him, he has to play ball so the secrets will be kept safe for him. someone has to investigate him.
The left has more secrets then the right all the power they have with media and bug tech
He’s nothing less than those that attacked our country! He should be questioned with everyone else guilty of fighting against the nation.
Who’s attacking us other then china
I’m tired of this man he is getting paid behind closed doors!!
Bet yer right!
People need to swamp his office with calls.
Russia’s on it already
No, he has clearly shown his hand. It’s just a matter of time before he switch party officially
There are certain core tenants of the Dem party. At this point , I’m not even sure he’s a Dem
Notice how he doesn’t disagree with any of these bills on their “merits”. This guy is full of 💩!!!
Because the people it represents are only Democrats.
You went out & voted for Biden because you wanted more handouts. But you still aren’t getting them. Pound sand.
Notice how he has said he’d vote for HR4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Those claiming only HR1, can make sure all can vote, are the ones full of manure.
He will switch party officially by the end of the year. Mark my word
He’s a collaborator. “Let’s unite the country and help feel the fascists and Confederates feel more included.” He’s the worst.
