Roseau, Dominica – October 22, 2009……. Representatives from OECS member states will gather in Dominica from October 26-27, for a regional seminar on Intellectual Property Rights . The event is being facilitated by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Intellectual Property comprises creations of the human mind and the human intellect. The rights of creators of innovative or artistic work are known as Intellectual Property Rights.
During the seminar a study will be launched on the Economic Impact of Copyright and Copyright-based industries in the region. Participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the design of the study.
Participants at the workshop will include: Ministry of Trade, Industry, Consumer and Diaspora Affairs; Ministry of Finance and Social Security; Dominica Calypso Association; The Cultural Division; The Statistical Division; The Companies and Intellectual Property Office; Dominica Writers’ Guild and the Dominica Association of Music Professionals.
This seminar on intellectual property is the second seminar Dominica will host on this subject in a matter of days. A consultation on the implications for OECS countries of the WTO DOHA Development Agenda Negotiations on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property will also take place on October 28th and 29th at the Garraway Hotel in Roseau.
