  1. As a special Ed teacher, I can tell you that mental health issues are definitely on the rise and this is not something we can ignore, shame or brush under the rug one moment longer. I’ve spoken up loudly about it and been shunned and treated like a weirdo for advocating for myself and my kids and am exiting education after this year, but I will NOT be quiet. This is a sad situation any way you look at it.

    1. One thing we can be almost certain of: had Neely lived he would _never_ have received the help he needed.

      Progressive hypocrisy notwithstanding.

    2. Yea but self-preservation trumps any mental health issue someone may have. In a life, body harm, and death risk scenario, im not going to take time to assess someone mental state. Your mental health is your issue, not mine. You dont care if I make it home or not, so I’m always going to use deadly force to subdue a threat.

    3. It’s not a sad situation someone how didn’t take care of there mental health by not seeking help was perceived as a threat. Like what if he had a weapon or gun. Are you going to take to take the person down and you dont know if they are on drugs, having a mental break down, or just having a bad day. According to the cops, we was already being violent on the subway and the marine subdue him. Honestly, he is a hero.

People like you make me sick. For instance, 2 years at the school shooting if the cops weren’t trying to reason with or have talk with the assault and went in gun blazing. Most of those kids would probably be alive.

  2. so his family who had a mentally ill man homeless out on the streets is suddenly pretending to care about him because they might get paid and benefit off of his death? πŸ™„πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ€‘

    1. Yup! That’s how it happens a lot. Instead of taking responsibility for and caring for a mentally ill family member, a lot of families want to push it off onto the police, the shelters or the hospitals, but then come out pointing fingers when something like this happens.

  3. β€œHomeless street artist”?? Really?? Just that?? He also had a long criminal history. that should also be mention. He did not deserve to die but hey show us both sides. Do better CNN!

    1. Menace to society is a better label. Annoying people with some lame shtick, is not being an artist.

    2. Are you out of your mind, so he has criminal history so he must be murderered?

It is not a requirement to have an opinion even if it makes no humanly conceivable sense

      Think before you type

    3. They have to determine whether or not he was a threat at that moment m and if so, then whether or not deadly force was necessary

    4. @O FAM Neely was so high he didn’t calm down till he died. Don’t do drugs.
Read through Neely’s 44 priors. Multiple assaults, some should be classified as attempted murder. His “family” is only involved now because they can smell money.

America’s mental health system is pathetic. Neely should have been in rehab and not on the streets in the first place.

  4. Let’s state that he found his mother in a suitcase when he was 14 years old. He was offered no assistance and left on the street. This is America.

    1. Hitler almost drowned as a kid, so using your logic he should be forgiven for having such a tragic past.πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸš¬

    1. So, next time if Karen Scream in on someone he can jump on her & kill her in self-defenseπŸ˜•

    2. Adam F,
If I feel threat by Karen, yes. I am not going to wait until Karen pulls out her knife. πŸ‘πŸΏπŸ’―

  5. This is so full of crap…. We need more Penny and less Neely on the street! Neely’s family was nowhere when he was alive but they seek donation in the name of justice as soon as he’s dead

  6. If Jordan Neely was jailed, like he should have been, he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to threaten the public. The city’s lax approach to crime is what caused this..

    1. @Thomas Brown obviously you’re not informed and speaking out of your behind. Jordan was arrested 44 times, for crimes like kidnapping a 7 old and assaulting 2 elderly women. He had an active felony warrant out for his arrest the day he died.

  7. Have they asked any of Neely’s 44 previous victims, how they feel about his death? Did they ask the guy Neely pushed onto the tracks? Did they ask the 67 year old woman, whose nose and eye socket Neely broke, how she felt when her attacker was just released? Those who failed to take Neely off the streets are to blame for his death, and the danger innocents were placed in, because this dangerous lunatic was allowed to roam the streets. Where was his concerned family before they sensed a big payout?

    1. Yes lets look for criminality in the victim
Very American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ and true to type
      You guys are sick

  8. unfit to function in our society, they must be placed in the proper institution. we will not be held hostage to a few violent criminals, who all have some form of mental illness. we will be free. the violent criminals will fear their victims.

  9. In New York City you can’t defend yourself. But someone with more than 40 arrests is allowed to threaten people.

    1. You certainly can, but you can’t use deadly force unless it is absolutely necessary

    2. @PabloYou answered the question. He choked Neely to death. Penny is a trained marine he should’ve known holding that choke would kill someone. He had complete control and 2 other people helped hold Jordon down. Why did he have to keep choking him? Could’ve held him down until police arrived.

    3. @Stanton Sanichar He didn’t know he would die. That’s why he placed in a recovery position immediately after while other passengers were thanking him.

    4. @Pablo Anybody trained in martial arts knows holding a choke like for more than 30 seconds is enough to kill somebody. You can’t cut off oxygen to the brain for that long without causing damage. Reports are saying Penny choked him for more than 9 minutes. That’s crazy tbh for someone like him that was trained to kill people.

  10. So according to reports, Neely’s family have been calling for the arrest of Daniel Penny, so my question is the family knew he was homeless and suffering from mental issues yet not one of them reached out to help him. Why?

    1. Because they knew he was dangerous. But now they see an opportunity to make some money, so, suddenly, he is the loved family member.

    2. Because there was nothing they could do. He was supposed to be in a mental health facility, but checked himself out and ended up on the street

    3. Sometimes, the person that is homeless doesn’t want anything to do with coming home. Sometimes there is nothing you can do to make them go home.

  11. People were hoping someone would do something. This is what happens when you refuse to die like a baby sheep

    1. in what world are the only 2 options being a “baby sheep” or choking someone to death?

  12. β€œHomeless street artist”, yeah right, he also kidnapped a child. But yeah let’s protect those kinds of people

    1. So, next time if Karen Scream in on someone he can jump on her & kill her in self-defenseπŸ˜•

    2. @Adam F. I’m yet to see a “Karen” who screamed about not caring if she goes to jail or balling up her fists. But hey, do you and I’ll keep an eye out for the cell phone video

  13. Homeless street artist??? This guy was a homeless crazy person and scared people! Daniel is a hero

  14. I think Penny is a hero, considering what’s going on in nyc. He saved innocent people’s lives

  15. π•Šπ•₯𝕣𝕒𝕨𝕓𝕖𝕣𝕣π•ͺ_𝕒𝕩𝕠𝕝𝕠π•₯π•β™‘οΈŽβ˜ΊοΈŽοΈŽ says:

jordan neely was arrested 44 times, kidnapped a 7 year old child, beat a senior citizen so severely that he fractured her skull yet wasn’t incarcerated. daniel penny served this country to keep all of us safe and yet continued his work to his community by preventing another crime by this criminal, jordan neely. but no, let’s just victimize Neely. please make sure to send neely flowers and donate $$$ to his family too while you are at it.

    1. 2 wrongs don’t make a right tho.
Dude is a vigilante at best, man slaughterer at worst

  16. Let it sink in, “He found his mother’s body inside a suitcase.” How can a person block that out of their minds? Now he’s gone by being murdered by a group of men. 😒
