The accusers are the overwhelming majority of Congress who have that constitutional authority afforded by impeachment. The fact witnesses were the White House staff who were ON THE CALL, the whistle blower, President Zelenski and his staff who were ON THE CALL. Joe Biden and his son knew nothing about this call. They are therefore not fact witnesses. The contents of the call released in a memo by the POTUS has not been disputed by the Whistle Blower. It is therefore undisputed fact and as such there is no need for the Whistle Blower to appear at the trial. I hope this makes it clearer for you.

Even if in some alternate universe the Bidens were guilty of the conspiracy theories proposed, the articles of impeachment wouldn’t change; in fact, the investigations, actually, wouldn’t have to happen, because the mere announcement of them places a negative spotlight on Trump’s most probable and potentially dangerous political adversary, thus, bolstering his own political prospects in 2020.
Adam Schiff was not acting as a prosecutor in the preliminary hearings; he was acting as the leader of an investigation and one of many arbiters of the evidence gathered and, ultimately, the one who recommends or declines articles of impeachment to the Senate; just as the FBI investigates and a Grand jury arbitrates the evidence in order to recommend or decline indictments to prosecutors in the Department of Justice. An FBI agent would only be compelled to testify if he/she were somehow a witness in the crime or conspiracy; and because the whistleblower’s report constitutes evidence, such is the case for Adam Schiff.
@Ditto McConnell makes the rules and picks the witnesses, testimony can even be compelled if immunity is offered. It’s customary for lead investigators to testify, I am sure Schiff will be happy to comply with a subpoena.
