Sen. Chuck Schumer pledged quick action on gun safety reform legislation after a bipartisan response to last month’s mass shootings.

A bipartisan group of senators said Sunday that it has an agreement in principle on gun control legislation, though the lawmakers did not provide specific and detailed legislation.
Ten of the signers were Republicans – the number needed to break a GOP filibuster on the package.

Moreover, even though the state of Florida has compulsory schooling laws, the students themselves are not “in custody”:
“Courts have rejected the argument that students are in custody of school officials while they are on campus,” Mr. Hutchinson said. “Custody is narrowly confined to situations where a person loses his or her freedom to move freely and seek assistance on their own — such as prisons, jails, or mental institutions.”

Every citizen should behave like adults and oppose this, even ones that support gun control. The federal government has absolutely zero authority in the realm of firearms acquisition, possession, design, or use within the States. The States never delegated the federal government that authority in the US Constitution, and therefore that authority does not exist (10th Amendment). It is short sighted in the extreme to support government acting outside the law, even if it for something you personally want. A government that can act outside of the law for something you support can (and will) also do so for something you oppose. The true way to protect your own rights is to protect those of your neighbor, whether you value them or not.
I have a feeling if the cops weren’t too scared to save children after an hour of bleeding out, then we would be talking about something else by now.
