Robert Durst HBO Documentary
Late Saturday evening, real estate magnate Robert Durst was arrested in New Orleans on a Los Angeles warrant related to a homicide investigation. Many speculate that the arrest was connected to tonight’s final episode of the HBO documentary series about his multiple murder trials and acquittals.
His arrest this weekend, however, came as part of an investigation into the 2000 death of Durst’s friend, Susan Berman.
The Jinx director Andrew Jarecki snagged Durst for a tell-all interview that served as the framework for their documentary series. Perhaps unintentionally, that interview audio tape included a very incriminating piece of evidence, as we saw during the final moments of Sunday’s finale.
“What the hell did I do?” Durst whispered to himself while in the bathroom, unaware that his mic was still hot. “Killed them all, of course.”
The Millionaire real estate heir Robert Durst’s life is so bizarre that HBO made the documentary series about it called “The Jinx.” But over the weekend, there were two major turns of events that could end Durst’s freedom: his arrest in New Orleans in a 2000 killing and the broadcast of his restroom mutterings that were picked up on his live microphone.
“What the hell did I do?” Durst says from a bathroom at the end of the documentary. “Killed them all, of course.”
His attorney says not to read too much into those comments. But more on that later.
To understand the complexities of Durst’s life — and the deaths linked to it — we have to start at the beginning:
