NBC’s Joshua Johnson was joined by Gillian Brockell, staff writer for Washington Post’s history column Retropolis, to discuss other forgotten moments in that history and how we should teach these events today.

  1. The participants of the 6th January were patriots and heroes. Also, Trump was the best president, the USA ever had. Trump will be a president again.

    1. You can NEVER change the fact the Obama has gone down in history as the WORST president in history.

    2. Keep dreaming . just like Mr orange keep dreaming because only in your dreams will he ever be president again .

    3. @Mutton Chops Everybody has a dream. I have a dream (c) Martin Luther King.
Don’t you have a dream? Tell me, what would you like to have or to be?

  2. What about all of the once beautiful cities that skcalb have turned into slums. What about all of the inner city shootings that happen all day every day throughout the country.

    1. Both my grandparents were forced to leave their homes because the neighborhoods they lived in since WWII got turned into ghettos. It’s a sad reality that people refuse to talk about or take ownership of. Plenty of poor slum white areas in WV and elsewhere that don’t have the same problems so blaming racism will only get them so far. Unfortunately the media lives divide and conquer. Loves exploiting minorities for political gain.

    1. White history month = every month for 200+ years. Get over your straight, white, religious male persecution complex (and I’m a straight white male…but thankfully not religious).

    2. @Progressive Humanist Get over your failure or inability to compete in an adult world……blamer. so childlike.

    3. Racism is when one Race believes there superior above other Races like
BLM and fake news is fueling it

  3. I thought all the liberals wanted to erase history. Remember all the statues that were taken in the past 2 years ??? How did that make anything better. Bringing all these things up that happened 100 years ago won’t change anything.

    1. No, it’s about celebrating racism that is objectionable. That’s why many in the Confederate South should not be revered thru statues, etc.

Remembering racist acts where people died should be commemorated. So that these largely innocent people get some posthumous respect.

Not hard to understand if you possess a compassionate heart.

    2. some of the people are still alive Pay them their reparations. it was not just a white mob it was the government.

  4. Thank you Biden, Harris, PeIosi, Waters, AOC and Schumer for the Iost because of China FIu and the prices up to 500% since Trump left the office.

    1. @Aedammair ornora its called supply and demand , has nothing to do with Biden . please tell us what is up 500%.
      Stop trying to divide us.

    2. @Profound Thoughts The supply problem is being fueled by Federal extended unemployment benefits.

    3. @Profound Thoughts – BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! Are you serious? Everyone knows that Biden’s first 100 days is the cause of inflation. And we are now finding out that the therapies that the Trump Administration was pushing would have saved 100’s of 1000’s!!! The Leftists killed a lot of people last year.

  5. Lack of forgiveness for a CENTURY old transgression is hate. Hate is just a way for Evil to perpetuate itself ……. Seriously…A CENTURY AGO.

    1. Internet “news” panders to our bias for views. Critical thinking is required. (I will admit, I roll my eyes, and move on, because this isn’t pandering to me. I’m sick of hearing it).

    2. Then apologize, make reparations and Teach this in School so it will never happen again.

    1. @Peter Bills Maricopa Audit is a discredited act by the loony right and will fall over in court like a chunk of ice-cream in the sun.

    1. @Make Racists Afraid Again I don’t know about “ignoring” it, but accentuating it doesn’t help either. Why don’t you find something positive to do?

  7. I think it’s great that they telling the stories but it should be a black person that’s telling the stories and doing the research.

  8. Internet “news” panders to our bias for views. Critical thinking is required. (I will admit, I roll my eyes, and move on, because this video isn’t pandering to me. As I’m sick of hearing it).

  9. We have to teach kids our REAL history. It wasn’t always pretty, sometimes it was awful, but we are in a better place even though we’re not yet where we need to be. Stop trying to pretend like the USA is some utopia, it is not.

    1. That’s so true. I learned about this event some 30 or 40 years ago and the story was that this town that was exclusively black was prospering (Black Wall Street) and that the whites in the same county torched it out of jealousy. That’s the story that I’ve been thinking was true for 40 years of my life.
I learned JUST TODAY that the actual truth is that it all started when 80 to 100 armed black men showed up at the sheriff’s office to free one of their own. Did I mention they had guns?
Yes, history is sometimes not always factual.

    2. @jeck jeck – Dude. A little cognitive dissonance for you. Chances are those white people were Democrats. LOL!!! Study history. Stop being the dumbest in the room.

  10. I’m sure the INDIANS OF AMERICA has a lot to say about their racial injustices in America.

    1. We need to see the complete history of everything and not push false ones. I learned about the Tulsa Massacre 30, 40 years ago and now I learn the real story. What I learned is that the town was attacked because of jealousy. That’s not even true. It was because 80 to 100 armed black men (with guns) showed up to get one of their own out of jail. Did I mention they were armed? That’s how it started. I didn’t know that until today.

  11. Until Liberals find a way to get their voices heard on ABC CBS NBC all this is pointless singing to the choir.

  12. Here’s a bit of “black“ history for you:

“I am afraid that there is a certain class of race problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well because as long as the disease holds out, they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.”
    – Booker T. Washington
