    2. Ghost of Kiev here – I agree.. Slava Ukraini!! *(oh wait, I was completely made up propaganda, never mind).

  1. For those who didn’t know, the hero was given the nickname, “Da Vinci” because it was his dream to become an artist.

    1. @Elizabeth Winsor It’s the flag of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, known by the acronym of its name in Ukrainian, UPA. References to those colours showed up in Slavic songs and poetry that date as far back as the 12th century.

The red is for love and the black is for sorrow and how they are intertwined.

  2. I recently lost both legs and am in rehab in Dublin Ireland where I met a Ukrainian soldier who had lost his leg up to the hip.
He didn’t have a word of english but it was an absolute honour to shake his hand.
All I could say was Slava Ukraine and his eyes lit up!! Utmost respect to him and the Ukrainian people!!!!

    1. Mate that’s an awesome touching reply. These men and women are all worthy of the title hero’s and warriors. I shake a lot of soldiers hands while in and out of Ukraine and as you say, it is an honour every time. The injuries you see in the military hospitals where I go to give things to the recuperating soldiers are just horrific. But a foreigner saying hello, shaking hands and saying Slava Ukraini goes a hell of a long way in the healing process. Hats off to you for doing that and also mate, I wish you the best for your rehabilitation and the road ahead, God Bless mate.

    2. @Smooth I got an infection in both legs ,,, I have type 2 diabetes which did not help and gangrene set in both legs which then had to be amputated to basically save my life

    1. Anyone who killed as many Orcs as this guy is going to be accompanied into heaven with a fanfare!

  4. Condolence to the family of this brave Ukrainian commander. Rest in peace. Your death is not in vain, you had offered the highest degree of offering to your country. – from Philippines

    1. @Thomas Smith he died so his nation may choose its own destiny and not be forced back under the russian boot

  5. Rip Da Vinci. A great loss for Liberty. 27 Years old, and Battalion commander. I would have liked to have known him.

  6. Battalion commander Dmytro “da Vinci” Kotsyubaylo died in battle at 27 years of age. He spent 9 last years of his young life defending his country’s independence against Russian soldiers and their proxies who have been trying to re-impose their evil empire on the Ukrainian people. A heartbreaking loss to his brave nation. Any decent person must feel for his family and brothers-in-arms.
    Slava Ukraini.

  8. Rest In Heaven… Soldiers in the Army of the Lord. God Bless Condolences to each and every family member and friends connect to this young man who gave his life to defend protect and serve…

    1. You have no idea what you are talking about. The armies of God aren’t even human and they consist entirely of angels.

  9. Condolences to the young commander family. A real Ukraine soldier defending his country. Respect from 1 soldier to another from Texas U.S.

    1. Today, the terrorists of the Bandera junta again shelled Donetsk with American weapons. A man and his seven-year-old son were killed

  10. History will remember his name as a true hero that has defended a city for years against the so called might of the Russian Federation.
    RIP legend..

  11. Even as an Englishman who is in and out of Ukraine helping with aid since the war started, I know about Dmytro or Da Vinci. Absolute legend, fighting since Maidan when he was 17, then into the Donbas at 18 and since then that is all he knew and what he dedicated himself to, defending his countries freedom against Russian orcs. So young to be a Battalion Commander but very smart tactically and worth all the status he had as a national hero and a first class warrior. He will be missed and mourned but he will inspire others to continue. One of the things I have been doing is providing supplies to the Ukrainian soldiers recovering in military hospitals, as I am ex Army myself and these wounded, including many women, are all warriors and heroes and my fellow brothers in arms. For anyone thinking of going to Ukraine to help, I would just say yes but be smart about it and respectful, for the right reasons. One of the best morale boosters especially for the troops, is just to hear a foreign voice, as it lets them know they are not alone and have not been forgotten. Every little bit of aid helps the collective effort which is to kick these Russian basta*%s out of Ukraine. RIP Dmytro Kotsyubaylo – Da Vinci, you and others will not be forgotten, LEST WE FORGET – Slava Ukraini!
