Republican megadonor Harlan Crow paid private boarding school tuition for the grandnephew of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, according to a report Thursday in ProPublica that was likely to bring a fresh round of scrutiny to both Thomas and the ethics practices at the nation's highest court.

Thomas had taken legal custody of his grandnephew at the time and told C-SPAN in an interview he was "raising him as a son." Tuition at the Georgia boarding school ran more than $6,000 a month, ProPublica reported. Thomas did not note the payments from Crow on his annual financial disclosures.

The revelation was the latest involving Thomas and Crow, who paid for lavish trips and private jet travel for the justice and his wife and who purchased three Georgia properties from Thomas and his family − none of which were reported on disclosure forms officials are required to file to give the public insight into their financial arrangements.

  1. Facts don’t care about feelings, so if Democratic Senators call out Thomas, Alito, Gorsouch, & Roberts for their corruption or lies then it seems the people who are offended by that are focused on the wrong issues.

    1. You didn’t mention the liberal judges who do the same thing. Someone is focused on the wrong issues, you should check a mirror for who that might be.

    2. @johnny whatthefuck Who are the “liberal” Supreme Court ” judges who do the same thing”? Citations and documentation, please.

  2. Now imagine the outcry from Republicans is Thomas was a liberal. It’s amazing how values can waiver.

    1. starting with the one who said she would defer to a biologist on whether or not she qualified as a woman

  3. first it was his wife. then a friend. now its his grandkid’s cousin. cant wait til they say the pay raise a second cousin three times removed got somehow affected his decisions.

    1. He became as legal guardian and obviously took money that he should have paid taxes on.

  4. Thomas has presided over ZERO cases that have involved his friend in any way. What is the accusation exactly? That Thomas has a friend who donates to the GOP???

  5. Admittedly, appalling amounts of monthly monies for a “ relative & paid Vacations” from Businesses, compared to my SS/ Medicare limited coverages …………

  6. Any gifts over 14,000 from an individual in one year — taxes must be paid.

Apparently the tuition was like $60,000 a year.

    Tax fraud maybe?

  7. Crow’s statement: “Harlan Crow has long been passionate about the importance of quality education and giving back to those less fortunate, especially at-risk youth….”
Really? We really need to see a documented list of the *_other_* “at-risk youth” whom Crow has financed.
