Rep. Gallego: ‘There Was No Way This Was Going To Be A Clean Exit’

Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), a Marine veteran, joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the Afghanistan withdrawal. "This is a horrible situation. There's no denying that. It was always going to, unfortunately, end in a horrible manner. There was no way this was going to be a clean exit. That's what happens when you're in war for 20 years," says Rep. Gallego.

  1. Maybe withdrawing people well in advance as well as securing the city of Kabul might have made it a bit smoother.

    1. If you tried withdrawing americans first many of them will not still want to go immediately because nobody thought he government will collapse like that. Then when it happened, america will have to go back in to get the people that didn’t leave.(I didn’t even mention the afghans that helped)

    2. @Jessica T Against the wishes of our allies, but with massive support from the American people who want out of that war. Who does the president serve our allies, or Americans? If they weren’t prepared that’s on them they knew we were pulling out for over a year. And so did any US civilians in the country. Nobody knew the Afghan army would collapse immidiatley.

  2. Great interview. Thank you Ms. Mitchell and Congressman Gallego. Afghanistan was doing fine until Russian troops rolled in and awoke jihad in this country. The U.S. can’t fix everything.

  3. Joe Biden didn’t do this. It was always going to end like this. “Don’t look at me, look at him.”

  4. I’m tired of hearing the GOP lie about Biden abandoning equipment, this equipment was gifted to the Afghans for defense and not Bidens fault they chose to surrender it.

    1. @Love Each Other you’re just sad period, because we fired your incompetent and dishonest hero, hey shout out to Kleenex tissues.

    2. @Guy DeGregg I can’t thank you enough for the belly laugh you just gave me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  5. I love how Congressman Gallego keeps going after a media that’s stuck on a story and doesn’t want to change. Please stop interviewing the people that created this mess because they’re the people you’ve always gone to. Things have changed.

  6. Interesting how fox is all of a sudden against the war, when for 20 years, they were supporting the republican leaders who manufactured the war in the first place. Like, what changed?? πŸ€”πŸ™„

    1. So you are claiming that Fox did NOT support Trump the Peace president and should be supporting Biden the WarHawk?

  7. Another Veteran speaking the truth. Bravo sir! If you want to blame ANYBODY, blame the politicians & generals who kept this charade going for so long.

  8. Every time president Biden has the guts to do something, trump comes in to take the credit. For example the vaccine rollout. Trump- I started it. The deaths- I caused more deaths. Afghanistan, trump- I started it they couldn’t stop it.

  9. If only we had some kind of established presence so we could evacuate civilians, allies, and military equipment before handing Kabul over to the Taliban…..

  10. Really??? So no way to prevent this? I guess giving the Taliban our equipment and the names of our allies was also the only way this had to go down? πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
