Music legends Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, leaders of the alternative rock band R.E.M., join MSNBC’s Ari Melber, along with author David Rothkopf for Fallback Friday, an irreverent segment on “The Beat with Ari Melber.” Stipe and Mills question the current obsession with social media and “brand” building; and Stipe challenges tech and media corporations for their impact on democracy, citing how Twitter enables Pres. Trump’s “hate speech.” Aired on 11/1/19.

R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe On Trump’s ‘Hate Speech,’ Corporate Ownership Of The Press | MSNBC
Talk about the passion
Not everyone can carry the weight of the world.
“Who cares what celebrities think about politics ?”
YOU ELECTED ONE. THAT ARGUMENT IS *GONE*
Ronald reagan..sonny bono..arnold Schwarzenegger…etc..etc…
Michael Stipe, love your songs but there is a very simple solution to corporate media corruption and fake news. Stop watching them, stop funding them. Oh wait, most your revenue comes from there…Oops!
Most likely, this appearance was a condition for some lucrative deal with the host’s diaspora.
Intelligent grown men can’t contribute just because they were famous? Come on.
Regardless of who they are…they ALL spoke brilliant ideas that warrant follw up!l(celebrity or not)..And can you add anything remotely intelligent? Judging by your chosen screen name…i bet not, gubberfuck!!
Suggested to take a stand. ✊Stand in the place where you are
Now face west.
@Lorax Tribe Think about direction wonder why you haven’t before.
pretty persuasive

now is as good a time as any
Very good fall backs from the r.e.m. people…I 100% agree
I LOVE REM’s Monster album! Super rocking and underrated.
One of my fave albums
REM was always a thinking persons band, which is made very evident here. Not that what they said has never been said before, just that of all the things they could have said they hit on two biggies.
Trump is backwards a forward thinker talks to every body open minds move forward.
Trump isn’t a forward or backward thinker. He doesn’t think.
Losing My Religion
What I began to do after evangelicals voted for Trump.
“Life is bigger
It’s bigger than you
And you are not me”
I sit at my table and wage war on myself
It seems like it’s all, it’s all for nothing
I know the barricades
And I know the mortar in the wall breaks
I recognise the weapons, I’ve used them well
This is my mistake
Let me make it good
I raised the wall
And I will be the one to knock it down
I’ve a rich understanding of my finest defences
I proclaim that claims are left unstated
I demand a rematch
I decree a stalemate
I divine my deeper motives
I recognise the weapons
I’ve practised them well
I fitted them myself
It’s amazing what devices you can sympathize
Empathise
This is my mistake, let me make it good
I raised the wall
And I will be the one to knock it down
Reach out for me
Hold me tight
Hold that memory
Let my machine talk to me
Let my machine talk to me
This is my world, and I am the World Leader Pretend
This is my life, and this is my time
I have been given the freedom to do as I see fit
It’s high time I razed the walls that I’ve constructed
It’s amazing what devices you can sympathize
Empathise
This is my mistake, let me make it good
I raised the wall
And I will be the one to knock it down
You fill in the mortar
You fill in the harmony
You fill in the mortar
I raised the wall
And I’m the only one
I will be the one to knock it down
👍♥️🤡
I adore this song
Michael Stipe for President!!!
EFFECTIVE Arts Activism was co-opted by hella divisive forms of identity politics decades ago.
Panel of Three , what a relief to finally hear calm rational white men speaking truth to power, social media, shameof the WH, politics, and money that binds ratings and competition.
There’s quite a few calm rational white men out there if you look.
Good discussion…need more of this. Ideas for change come from conversations like this.
California, where the sun shines 360 days a year: The amount of sunlight that falls on the planet in one hour provides enough energy to meet global demands for one year. Go solar.
PG&E has been the enemy of the people in California for my entire life of 58 years, and the government has suppressed bids for public power for decades. They’re getting out of the game and don’t care how many people they ruin or lawsuits they generate.
Facebook, Twitter and fox are to blame
1:55 — Major props to Michael Stipe for calling out #jackDorsey of twitter for having created the Trump #hatespeech culture of the US by granting Trump exemption from their Terms Of Service 4 years ago, while regular citizens have to abide by them.
Americans want things torn down before they get guts for change.
Trump daily attack the media as his “enemy”.
Yet he forget that the only reason anyone even know who he is, is thanks to the media.
“Biting the Hand” much?
The only protest song I know is 77 year old Paul McCartney’s “Despite repeated warnings”.
