Presidential historian Jon Meacham reacts to a new POLITICO report that underscores how Trump has fought with all of the most famous political families of the Republican Party in his effort to take control of the GOP after his re-election loss to Joe Biden which he still refuses to acknowledge.

Sounds like the current Republican faction has given itself a lobotomy.
The Republicans are not even a political party anymore they are just one of those conspiracies that they love:
“If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power” President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1956, 4th Annual Republican Women’s National Conference
@Borvo Yep.
@O S *BREAKING NEWS*
The Trump Presidential Library has burned down. Tragically, the fire consumed both books, and Trump hadn’t even finished coloring the second one.
@O S *_Trump is highly skilled at the art of the con. “Con” is short for confidence, and it is based on gaining confidence or trust from the potential victim. The skilled con is an expert at “baiting” the rube . . . telling the target what he wants to hear as the “bait”, inspiring trust or confidence. Trump is truly a dedicated master baiter, spending a great deal of time each day master baiting his base._*
@Phil Groves
I’d rather have a free bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy.
the modern Eisenhower party is the establishment dems. I remember reading something in the last 6 months or so. Reading what Clinton said in the 90’s.
Mr. Meacham does hit the nail on the head. Astutely and succinctly
Post-truthism is clearly a problem.
Trumpism is clearly a problem.
It’s important for the media to recognize problems…
I don’t know that idiotic nonsense is the most pressing concern, nor should it be the focus of the media.
The reality that Fox inhabits is a problem, but not our most pressing concern.
nb. I’m not from the USA
1954 GOP platform:
1. federal assistance to low income families
2. expand unemployment insurance
3. equal pay initiative
4. strengthen labor/union laws
5. extension of minimum wage
2020 GQP platform:
1. I’m with stupid
2. so am I…
3. I am also with stupid
4. what he said👆
5. fuqit, we’re all with stupid
@Phil Groves You will see 🤣
@N 827 Ok.
@Zaphod Beeblebrox – He’s already crying. We can all hear the little snowflake.
@N 827 – All I hear is you going, “Wah! Waah! Waaaah!” And it’s really sad — the lonely cry of the sore loser, lying to himself and not strong enough to admit the truth, living in a fantasy world, like a scared little baby who can’t face the real world. Go and escape into your QAnon nonsense and your conspiracy theories and your big lie. It’ll just make you more pathetic in the eyes of the world, but I know it’s all you have.
@wolfman02 Not crying at all! Laughing at you idiots. 🤣 TRUMP 2024
Ike would be sickened by the GQP CULT mentality……
What would he think about your fake team, after all he said in his 1961 farewell his concerns with government involvement in science
Yes, the Republicans are not even a political party anymore they are just one of those conspiracies that they love:
“If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power” President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1956, 4th Annual Republican Women’s National Conference
Who is surprised that the orange man is going after anyone who may be able to curtail his nasty revenge against the GOP, Rj in Oz
Putin is Driving the GQP . . .
The idea of the current Republican Party and a conversation is completely beyond the realm of the possible. We might be able to agree on the weather, but never the climats.
Even if it were sunny out Cruz, Hawley, Johnson, Jordan, Greene, et al would insist that it is pouring rain.
The only historical parallel is with the Stalin era in Russia, or maybe what happened under Mao in China.
Putin too.
Welcome to the middle ages
There was a certain Austrian corporal who became the leader of Germany last century, and he demanded a loyalty oath, not to Germany, but to himself. Sounds vaguely familiar… 🤔
@Mit Seraffej Correct. Hitler was decorated twice for bravery. The film “1917” kind of shows what he did during WWI. He was also injured by gas. Something he might not have recovered from. Trump, like a lot of privileged Boomers, got out of the draft during the Vietnam war era. And I do believe he described military service people as suckers and loser and that the remarks he made were true.
@BidenHarris: MAD Magazine’s Person Of The Year The GOP, Trump, and his supporters are the domestic enemies of America. Make no mistake these extremists are no longer Americans. Trump, his allies, and his supporters are not Americans, they are a pro-fascist anti-democratic enemy that had no problem with trying to overturn an election with violence, they have desecrated the Flag, the Capitol, and the Nation. They should be treated like the terrorists they actually are. This is not a war on free speech it is a war on misinformation and all right-wing media platforms the deal in misinformation should be de-platformed…period.
@BILLY yep each of us no matter who has the right to his or her opinions no matter how off the wall the opinions are but FACTS are supposed to be universally recognized
@Alli P Hitler went to prison for that, wrote his book spewing his hateful lies and thoughts and as for the rest we all know how it turned out for Germany.
@Paolo Curradini But Trump and the Republican party do seem to have adopted the beliefs of Hitler as stated by Joeseph Goebbels,
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all its powers to repress dissent, for the TRUTH is the mortal enemy of the LIE, and thus by extension, the TRUTH is the greatest enemy of the State.” Or more pointedly TRUTH is the greatest enemy of the Republican party!
Donald Trump’s specialty is being handed millions for doing nothing, riding the wave of those that came before’s hard work and existing in a drug addled delusion of grandeur.
So your side gives 7 thumbs up for fictional writing
Investigate Marlago for cocaine adderall and Sudafed . Drug house and all the minions are addicts. Speed bust his as lock em the pos up 😡
Meecham has been a good sleeping partner of mine with his podcast ‘Fate of Fact”.
🎯💯👏👏👏
DJT is seeming more and more like Jim Jones every day. He’s that dangerous.
Jim Jones took and moved his cult out of the country though.
What’s even more funny is about 700 people linked going to Trump’s rallies last year died of covid. The Jim Jones massacre, 909 people died.
@Yvonne Plant he still can I’m sure there must be an island out there they could all go too. One way ticket only
Saw Jim Jones in Drumpt almost immediately. Why did he want to buy Greenland? Ya voldt
The party they are tuning into can’t win back the presidency, though, since that requires the support of moderates and independents…
They can win the presidency if they have control of the ballots. That’s what they’re trying to set up right now. It doesn’t matter that they don’t have support.
@soaringvulture no, they still can’t since the courts are the last line of defence, and they have proven themselves very reliable defenders of democracy in the last few months, by shooting down – often with harsh rebukes – every single lawsuit Trump filed across the nation, even in the reddest districts, even when the decision rested with life long Republican judges, and even when the judges had been recently appointed by Trump himself
@Paolo Curradini You must be an optimist. I thought we had run out of them lately.
Some of these people couldn’t even be crossing guards.
Reaganomics was the beginning end of the middle class. Still waiting on the trickle down.
Trump finished the job. 😨
@BidenHarris: MAD Magazine’s Person Of The Year And President Biden is on track to destroy the Reaganism.
One of the reasons why the Republicans are solved dedicated to voter suppression is because the American voters have figured out trickle-down economics doesn’t work
And you did not even mention another legacy of the Reagan administration:
Our present problems started after Ronald Reagan’s FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced. It has been this singular act that has really served to create these self-serving loudmouth talk radio personalities and their echo chambers that have divided the country and continue to disseminate lies and promote chaos with the goal of causing the people of America to lose faith in our democracy and our institutions, including the media, that prop up that democracy.
@Mhambi Musonda Since it has not trickled down, that would be good! Tax breaks for corporations and the super rich have brought this country to the sad state that it is in.
Brian Roberts ‘ suffering is getting worse!
Eisenhower would of flipped over to the Democrats in today’s date and age.
God help us !!
