Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, The Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit to address the Commonwealth of Dominica, Ontario Association (CDOA) 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Ontario

On Saturday October 9, 2010 the Commonwealth of Dominica, Ontario Association will host its 40th Anniversary as a leading Caribbean organization in Ontario, under the Patronage of the Ministries of Tourism and Culture for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The event will be held at the Macedonian Cultural Centre, 76 Overlea Boulevard and will feature the Prime Minister of Dominica, The Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit as Keynote speaker. Prime Minister Skerrit was recently re-elected with overwhelming majority, his second term as the world’s youngest Prime Minister.

Guest speaker at the event will be a favorite of Dominicans and persons of Caribbean heritage, York Regional Police Chief, Mr. Armand La Barge.

More than 500 attendees are expected, including members of all levels of Canadian Government, the judiciary and visiting Dominican officials.  Among the highlights will be cultural performances from the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Commonwealth of Dominica, Ontario Association (CDOA) was established 40 years ago by expatriates from the Commonwealth of Dominica who were new residents to Ontario Canada. The organization supports the goals and objectives of residents of Ontario, Canada, who are from the Commonwealth of Dominica origin.  Its main purpose is to enable a robust social network, encourage and support mentoring within the community, and build constructive relationships that benefit our members and local communities.

The CDOA assist all groups within our community–children, youth, adults and seniors, through a number of activities that include an annual Children’s Christmas party, a popular summer picnic, and the awarding of several university scholarships to high academic performers who are also active community volunteers.

From 2004 – 2006, the CDOA donated C$35000 towards Health Care services in Dominica and in 2008 raised C$10,000 for farmers whose crops were devastated by Hurricane Dean.
