On Thursday June 20th, Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, will lead a delegation to hold discussions in Paris, France, with the Agence Francaise Development (AFD) in relation to Dominica’s geothermal project.
According to the Ministry of Public Works, Energy and Ports’ press release, the meeting will review the experience of AFD in financing geothermal and other renewable resource projects.
The delegation includes: Minister of Public Works, Energy and Ports, Mr. Rayburn Blackmoore and his Permanent Secretary Mr. Lucienne Blackmoore, Dominica`s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vince Henderson, and Edward Lambert, chairman of the Technical Committee on Geothermal Energy Development.
The team is expected to brief the Agence Francaise Development on Dominica`s overall plan for developing geothermal energy and outline plans for a small power plant to supply electricity to the domestic market.
The release also stated, that the meeting will focus on the assembly of donors, which will be held in Dominica with the principal aim of inviting the country`s development partners to continue their collaboration with the Government in developing the geothermal resource.
The Ministry pointed out that the agency has provided, at highly concessionary rates and conditions, funding for the phase of Dominica`s geothermal development programme, and has agreed to provide financing for the drilling of the production, amounting to EC$23,887,500.
